Hondas were a feast for the eyes GB 500 Clubman always. But compared to the XBR 500 motor dispenser, it lacked pressure and a full single cylinder stroke. Cylinder comes from an XR 600

In numbers: ten Newton meters more in the middle of the rev range press noticeably more forcefully, the single looks much more confident. Now go beautiful and strong together.

Without a long run-up, the petite cafe racer easily cracks the “ton”, the 100 miles per hour, corresponding to 160 km / h. With its modified silencer, it sounds more robust than the production model without immediately coming across as rowdy.

The elastic single cylinder follows the commands of the gas hand precisely and directly, and thanks to the large centrifugal mass, it can even be taken under load in the final fifth gear without jerks or holes from 2500 tours. The cultivated single doesn’t know hacking. At most a somewhat irregular idle. The power regimen can be recognized by the black cylinder. It comes from an XR 600, has been drilled out a bit and still fits without any problems.

Together with the Teflon-coated Wiseco 101 piston, the displacement increases to a good 600 cm3 and the compression increases to 10: 1. An air filter box with more throughput and the 40 mm flat slide carburetor also make breathing easier for the single, while the secondary air system flies to the garbage. That is enough to achieve the desired good torque curve. That is why Ulf Penner decided not to work on the head and channels, which “would only bring something around the top.” If you want that, you also need the Penner camshaft: “The series cam runs out of air with 600 cubic meters at high revs,” says Ulf. Of course, all modifications also fit the XBR 500.

Comparison of torque curves.

Great: fat buffalo instead of thin saddle of venison! Ulf Penner’s power and displacement curve shows a significantly fuller torque curve. In the important range between 3000 and 5500 tours, it is around ten newton meters more. This can be clearly felt when driving. The tuning stew offers a lot more lard from below. The revving also increases. The fact that the peak power increases from 42 to 46 hp is a pleasing side aspect, because more peak power was not even in the specifications for this torque tuning.

Prices: The conversions cost around 1350 euros. This includes: displacement expansion to 600 cubic centimeters, flat slide carburetor, test bench adjustment, seals, small parts, working hours.
