Enrolled in the Superstock 1000 at the start of the year, Loris Baz was promoted to the Superbike category within the Kawasaki team to replace the unfortunate Joan Lascorz. Applied, the young Bazooka quickly took his marks on the official Ninja… Portrait !
To allow you to get to know the French representatives at the highest level of motorcycle racing better, Site offers you its questionnaires to which we submit the French riders and their teams..
After and, it’s Loris Baz’s turn to be listed by the Motorcycle Journal of the Net !
While on his way to Aragon where the second half of the 2012 WSBK season will open (read), Loris was kind enough to answer our series of questions.
News from the front
- Site: First of all, what is your assessment of your first races in the big leagues? ?
Loris Baz I am very satisfied ! I, who am always positive, did not expect to do so well! Not in terms of space because it also depends on other people’s mistakes and a lot of people just watch that … But what I’m looking at are lap times and race times. In Misano I finished one tenth behind my teammate Sykes who is fighting for the championship, 12 seconds from the podium and 17 from the victory: that’s less than 6 tenths per lap … It’s not bad !
- Your goal for Aragon ?
The same as in the first three races: continue to learn and get used to this bike and improve. If I go into the superpole and finish twice in the top 12 -13, I would be very satisfied !

Personal informations
- Right or left handed ?
Right handed.
- Studies, diplomas ?
I left school early enough to devote myself 100% to motorcycling … But I’m not "illiterate" either, hahaha! And I speak English, Spanish and Italian so I’m fine. If the motorbike stopped for some reason and I have to start studying again, well I will. !
- Odd jobs ?
I help my dad in his business when he needs me, I always did and I still do, I don’t mind. On the contrary, it makes me happy.
- Current occupation ?
Motorcycle rider.
- The quality that we recognize most often ?
I think I am a generous and caring person! I try to cheer everyone up all the time, I’m a positive person !
- Your main fault ?
I don’t know … My mom would say I’m too nice and trust people too much. Personally, I would also say that I am stubborn. You could also say that I don’t like to be wrong.
- Your hobbies ?
Sport in general and spending time with my friends.
- Vehicles currently in your garage ?
Not much … Since I had all my training gear broken into and stolen! Racing bike, mountain bike, trial bike, enduro and cross … My garage is a little empty at the moment !
- And in the garage of your dreams ?
Lots of things … I am passionate about motor vehicles: helicopter, car, quad, etc. If I had to name just one vehicle, I would choose … a Lamborghini Aventador !
Career
- Your youthful idol ?
Loris Capirossi.
- Your first experience on a motorized two-wheeler ?
Yamaha PW at 3 years old !
- Your first motorcycle race ?
It was in 2001 in motocross. But in speed it was two years later, at Septfontaine with a Conti 50 cc.
- Your first victory ?
In the European 600 Superstock Championship 2008, on the Valencia circuit.
- Your best victory ?
In the French Superbike Championship in 2009, a year when things were going pretty badly in 1000 Superstock. But putting on slicks changed my life! After being two seconds late, I go back up and win ahead of Sebastien Gimbert and Sylvain Barrier.
- Your greatest defeat ?
In Portimao in 2008: big fight with Gino Rea who takes me out on the last lap, I come back anyway, double and he sucks me on the finish line !
- Your best memory on the track ?
There are a lot of them but I would say my first three races on the Superbike. Take the wheel of Biaggi, Checa, etc. It is really good !
- Your best memory in the paddocks ?
Once again, it was during the 2008 season. I was 15, we were a bunch of young people and we couldn’t stop … Between the scooter races, the small evenings in the paddock after the race on Saturday , it was really great … And in addition I won, so it was perfect !
- Your favorite circuit ?
I’ll name three: Brands Hatch, Portimao and Oulton Park. - Your favorite motorcycle ?
Without hesitation my current Superbike bike, the ZX-10R !
- A favorite race number ?
Le 65: my name is Loris, I was born in 1993, my parents were fans of Loris Capirossi, I myself am a fan, so I always wanted to run with his number. Unfortunately, it is not possible since my passage in Superbike because Jonathan Rea already uses it.
Piloting
- Your strong points in piloting ?
I don’t know exactly … We should call Adrien (Morillas, NDLR), my coach since my beginnings. I think my feeling is a strong point. My attack also because each time I leave the boxes, I attack very quickly to feel the limit of the machine.
- Your weak points ?
I don’t really know either. I try to have as little as possible. For the moment I think I have to improve on all points, I have no particular weak point.
- Your daily training ?
Between the races I do jogging or cycling, muscle building (sheathing, a little weight training, etc.), but I try to vary the sports as much as possible. When I have time I love to play squash.
- Your entourage during race weekends ?
My parents come most of the time and Adrien, my coach, is always there too. In the motorhome I am always with Jeremy Gguarnoni who rides in 1000 Superstock, he is one of my best friends !
WSBK 2012
- Your personal goal ?
Learn and progress race after race. I have no objective of result. My goal is really to learn and try to make as few mistakes as possible to keep this bike next year and get ready for the 2013 season..
- Your opinion on Aprilia ?
They have an excellent engine but I think they are a little hard to develop and adapt to its driving.
- BMW ?
Excellent engine also on this machine, but I think it is too aggressive.
- Honda ?
The Honda looks like a healthy motorcycle, with no big strengths but not particularly weaknesses either, although it does seem to lack power a bit. On the other hand it seems to turn very easily.
- Suzuki ?
I haven’t been riding it much so I really don’t know.
- The Ducati ?
The Ducatis run very well. In my opinion, their front end is fantastic. Afterwards they lack power in the stretch that’s for sure, but their acceleration is very good. It balances !
- Your Kawasaki ?
I think it’s a bit like the Honda, we don’t have any particular weak points. Our engine is fantastic and the electronics too, we have a lot of power but the bike remains very smooth. !
- The Pirelli ?
Apart from three races last year, I have always ridden Pirelli since 2007. These tires have a flexible carcass, so they move a lot. Despite everything, I have a great feeling with !
- What will be your life in ten years ?
In the race everything goes very quickly: today you can be a hero and tomorrow a zero. So I am not making a plan on the comet. In any case, I will do everything to be still there and, I hope, even higher. Why not by already being world champion? Wouldn’t be bad, no ?
