Like a phoenix from the ashes. A sucked-out saying, but for once not for the phrase bin. At the PS-Tuner-GP 2007 the Kalex AV1 burned brightly. Now she’s running again.

Pffffft. Alex Baumgartel greedily pulls on a thin, self-rolled one. Hot and smoking things can no longer really frighten him.
Meanwhile, buddy Klaus Hirsekorn has fire water ready. No, it’s just cold bottled beer and seconds later Klaus ?? Throat rushed down.
the Kalex AV1 stands quietly in the corner of the box. To discover any fire damage? No. Not a speck of dust disfigures the motorcycle. The perfectionist Klaus takes care of that.

Kalex consists of two wonderfully crazy motorcycle enthusiasts who reach for the stars in an epoch of mankind, in which unfortunately the most brainless wallet idiot thinks himself to be a horny guy. The two, however, don’t give a damn about returns and realize their dream of their own motorcycle.
A laptop of the two plays the incredible story of the New Zealander John Britten on its display. While the Kalexians are enjoying the DVD documentary about the quirky motorcycle manufacturer, there is enough time to look at the baby they have developed themselves.
It is slim, angular and unobtrusive Kalex AV1. Crouched, ready to run and with perfect details, it presents itself up-to-date.

In 2005, there was just a thought from the previous year and an auctioned standard Aprilia Mille motor on the workbench: designer Alex Baumgartel whirled around with CAD and other sneaky design programs as Daniel Dusentrieb on the keyboard.
Alex and Klaus, a duo with 40 years of age at the same time, are hardened by their activities in the endless racing expanses of automobile sport.
This naturally creates a close network of specialists, with whom technician Klaus Hirsekorn then worked with the patience of an angel and a steady hand to transform plans and colorful programs into metallic or carbon fiber.

The intake funnels are integrated in a mounting plate. The airbox and tank are then docked from above.
The result was a steel space frame, a swing arm, radiator, triple clamp, a complete exhaust, an airbox, a variable swing arm pivot, a new tank,

However, the approach always remained technical perfection instead of revolution, in order to simply build a nice, light vehicle for the Kringel.
That finally brought the team to horsepower and an invitation to the Tuner GP 2007. Until then, the slim piece had not driven a meter.
So let us quickly approach the fiery climax. Short and painful: first driving tests in June, then the bang in Hockenheim. A highsider, a metal part and a mixture of oil and fuel brought about the sudden end of a dream.

155 dry weight make it easy for the finely tuned series engine. Rico has nothing to complain about. “Stable, ultra-handy, drives great.” So the bold pilot in a nutshell. He complains that the damping is a little too tight and that the carbon corner is too tight. The Kalex troops have since sorted out both. Well then, open fire!
Conclusion: At the moment it is AV1
still a unique piece, but for sale: for approx. 80,000 euros. Small series, new model, special parts? Let’s see what the future brings.
