First test runs for Moto2

Triumph has presented a new Daytona 765, which unfortunately will not make it into the sale in a similar way. The engine installed in it will be launched in Moto2 from 2019.

E.t is rather unlikely that Triumph will bring the Daytona 765 as a street-legal Euro 4 model. Triumph fans will still have to be content with older Daytonas or the new Street Triple, which has got the Euro4-compliant 765 cc engine. It’s a pity, actually: a new Daytona would certainly have some interested parties.

In the course of an initial test with the future Moto2 motorcycle, the former Spanish 125 cm³ world champion Julian Simon was able to drive the first test laps with the prototype. In order to give the teams enough time to develop for the 2019 season, the final Moto2 engines are to be delivered in June 2018.

How is the Moto2 development progressing??

Steve Sargent, Chief Product Officer at Triumph Motorcycles said on the progress of the Moto2 engine: "At this point in development, we’re on the right track. We are very satisfied with the speeds that Julian set with the last prototype and have also received very positive feedback from him. We are confident that we will deliver an engine that will bring joy to the teams. We want to deliver a great show and inspiring sound to the audience."

Test driver Julian Simon also commented on the development status of the Triumph Daytona 765: "I see great progress in the new engine. It gives a great feeling. There’s a lot of energy in it and the gearbox is fantastic. I also think the sound is simply awesome."

We are excited to see how the new Triumph engine will fare in Moto2 from 2019.
