The tension in the run-up to TunerGP is always gigantic. For weeks, the PS editorial team has been in close contact with the tuners who were awarded a place to participate in March and then set about implementing their submitted projects.

A real TV professional always likes to come to PS-TunerGP. Sid Hoffmann likes weird colors, which of course doesn’t mean the lady.

The BMW boom seems broken

After all, this tension is greatest on the evening before the first day of driving. Then the bikes roll into the box and the cards are on the table. This year, however, the PS nerves were calmed down quite quickly, because what rolled over the scales and in front of the lenses of the photographers at the end of June was consistently great cinema. Motorradtke from Gera turned a mid-range bike into a super sports car at a very large price, while Denis Hertrampf went the exact opposite way and turned a Ducati superbike into a nasty fighter.

And finally there were real superbikes again, which are so much fun here on the GP course in Hockenheim and which pull the testers’ arms out turn by turn. The BMW boom seems broken. After the Alpha Racing BMW last year with 235 hp, the topic for the tuners is probably over. For this we got two Kawasaki ZX-10R from bds Racing and Bike Shop Luchow with very different approaches. The Kawas caused just as much “Oh” and “Ah” from the interested audience and race training participants as did the brilliant Fireblade from Stralsund, which is perfectly constructed. She underlined that Honda unfortunately has little desire to push the next superbike generation into the show rooms, but the current model is still a damn good basis from which to forge a real sports weapon – tuner skills and Know-how required.

The exotic must not be missing

And then the exotic. They shouldn’t be missing from any TunerGP, because they are the real experimental bikes. The tuners are of course aware that there is no flower pot to be found at TunerGP without power and racetrack performance. Klein-Yamaha as an old tunerGP-Fuchs knows that exactly, has done magic again and made an MT-09 legs so that we were speechless. In PS issue 9 we will therefore have an exciting comparison on the MT-09 topic at TunerGP and can already reveal that Yamaha absolutely has to build an athlete with this triple engine. The 1290 Super Duke R is already on everyone’s lips. So it’s great that Racefoxx took on this power beating and thus upgraded the naked bike field.

We were very happy that there were applicants from the Supersport class again. In sport, unfortunately, everything focuses on the 1000s, which is why the candidates, a Kawasaki ZX-6R from MTC Lohmann and the Triumph Daytona 675 from Bretters, impressively reminded us of what makes this category so beautiful.

The test and photo drives were tough. You will find the articles on the following pages and in two extremely interesting comparison tests in the next two issues of PS. The editors were also supported by well-known racing drivers during the tests. Pascal Eckhardt and Christian Kellner intervened in the action, walked Arne Tode through the paddock and the tuners brought more professionals with them to tune their bikes. Kevin Wahr supported both parties, Jan Buhn helped with Motorradtke and Horst Saiger should have been there for PS too, but unfortunately his fall at the TT made that impossible.

Race crazy people at the ring

But there was also a lot going on around it, because the TunerGP has been luring a lot of racing enthusiasts to the ring for years. The training, professionally organized and carried out by MOTORCYCLE action team, was completely sold out. Sponsor Bridgestone reliably supplied everyone with sticky tires, and TunerGP partner Magura presented their racing parts directly in the paddock. Our loyal test stand professional Thomas Hafner made a real precision landing with his Dynojet. He was in the paddock punctually at seven o’clock in the morning and had to head for Lubeck at eleven! At this point, a big thank you to everyone for their great support.

This also applies to Metzger Meier from Freudenstadt, without whose catering the TunerGP would never be complete and the barbecue with one or the other tankard of free beer would be unthinkable for everyone in the paddock.

In addition to tests and photo rides, the event offers perfect conditions for two days to deal intensively with the topics of sports motorcycles, new developments, technical solutions and the market, to exchange experiences and opinions and to deepen contacts. This is exactly what the tuners and the editors appreciate, which is why we are proud of this event and can justifiably claim that only PS has an ear that close to the scene.

And so we can announce that the TunerGP will continue. Stay tuned for the next edition in 2015 – we are already very excited about the applications.
