MT-09 in the legendary RD look

The Spanish accessories supplier Puig specializes in attachments for modern motorcycles. Now the heads of the Puig creative department have created a virtual reminiscence of the legendary Yamaha RD 350.

How could one Yamaha RD 350 what if it were reborn in 2020? The Spanish accessories provider Puig has investigated this question.

Three instead of two-cylinder, four instead of two-stroke

Since potent two-strokes have hardly any chance of approval at the moment, Puig had to switch to a modern four-stroke as the basic bike. It also has three in line instead of the two cylinders of the original. The choice of the creative is a Yamaha MT-09. However, the technology was not decisive for the war, it should be more about the design. First and foremost, the classic tank bench line of the uncovered RD should be found on the MT-09. Because the technology of the basic bike was not to be touched, slight concessions had to be made here and there with the lines.

The tank, the bench and the lamp mask were renewed. The lighting in the Puig design uses LED technology. The LED mini indicators have been integrated into the rear-view mirrors. In addition, the Spaniards combine a few add-on parts from their own range. The RD appearance of the MT-09 is rounded off by painting in the traditional RD look in the colors white and red.

No series planned

Series production of the Puig Yamaha RD 350 Rebuild, also as a kit, is currently not planned, but would be possible. And because the designers have gotten an appetite, further design models from Puig are to follow in the future.

Conclusion

A retro look for retrofitting is not new, but a good idea. If the price is right, there would certainly be enough people willing to buy and renovate.
