Super athletes meanwhile at 3,500 kilometers

The 2019 model year BMW S 1000 RR will take 50,000 kilometers under the wheels in an endurance test. Here you can find out how the super athlete is doing.

A BMW rolls around as a Christmas present on December 20, 2019 S. 1000 RR as a new member of the MOTORRAD long-term test family in the editorial garage. The digital display in the cockpit shows a virgin 623 kilometers. The fairing is wrapped in the color design white / blue / red, the license plate with the number M RR 938 hangs under the rear.

Before the super athlete is finally released into the daily editorial routine, he still has to be measured on the test bench. This is followed by the input measurement as well as the sealing of the motor and a compression measurement. At around 25,000 km, MOTORRAD then publishes an interim endurance test; Final measurements are carried out after 50,000 kilometers before the engine of the BMW S 1000 RR is dismantled and examined.

Mileage 3,500, 04/2020

On the last weekend in April, MOTORRAD fleet manager Tobias Wassermann had the pleasure of running the S 1000 RR long-term test in the Welzheimer Wald, Schurwald and Lowenstein Mountains for the first time. The trip with friends covered a total of around 500 kilometers. Friend and tour guide Steini has put together a wonderful and very varied round tour.

Fleet manager Tobias Wassermann was enthusiastic about the engine of the new S 1000 RR.

The BMW also knew how to impress on the first drive: "The engine is a stunner even on country roads. In sixth gear at 50 km / h out of town, just wind it up and the engine still pushes forward vigorously. Only those "Downshift"-The function of the blipper could be more precise and exact – feels very doughy and stiff. I’m used to better things from other BMW motorcycles!"

Mileage 2,200, 03/2020

After the arrival of the BMW S 1000 RR, a fight unfolded every evening between PS colleague Tobi Munchinger and godfather Ralf Schneider about who could ride the double R home. There was nothing to complain about up to the 2,200 mark. After around 2,200 kilometers, the first inconsistencies appeared. Both Simmerrings on the mighty upside-down fork show light oil mist, which had to be checked in the workshop and then replaced with new components. Very unusual!
