Honda CBR 600 RR
New 600s with winglets, but not for us
Honda brings a 600cc super sports car. The new CBR 600 RR emulates the big Fireblade, but is not coming to Europe.
B.Since spring 2020 speculation has been circulating about a new Honda CBR 600 RR, which could possibly be presented to the public as early as autumn 2020. Now it is time. Honda has introduced the new CBR 600 RR (PC40). However, this will initially only be reserved for Japanese customers. The CBR 600 RR will go on sale in Japan on September 25, at a price of around 11,650 euros plus tax. With the current VAT rate that would be just under 13,500 euros in this country. Yamaha has currently priced in the R6 at 14,085 euros, Kawasaki the ZX-6R from 11,400 euros. The only option for the Honda is the classic red paintwork with HRC bonds. Honda expects annual sales of 1,000 machines in Japan. No other world markets are currently planned for the CBR 600 RR.
121 HP peak power
The in-line four-cylinder with 599 cm³ displacement, which still hangs in an aluminum die-cast frame, develops 121 hp at 14,000 rpm and brings 64 Nm of torque at 11,500 rpm to the start. The 600 has been modified extensively for this purpose. The crankshaft and camshafts are new, the intake diameter in the throttle valve area has been enlarged from 40 to 44 millimeters, the valve timing has been optimized, all ducts on the intake and exhaust side have been modified and the exhaust area has been redesigned. The cooling concept of the cylinder head has also been changed for stability. The rear silencer is still located under the rear. It is shifted by a six-speed gearbox and servo clutch. A quick shifter with blipper function is available as an option. The specified weight is 194 kilograms. The seat height is 82 centimeters. The tires have a standard format of 120 / 70-17 at the front and 180 / 55-17 at the rear. With a switch to by-wire control, the CBR 600 RR was also extensively equipped with electronic control systems based on a 5-axis IMU. There is a choice of five different driving modes in addition to cornering ABS. Among other things, the traction control, the engine drag torque and the wheelie inclination can be set in many stages. The system also tries to keep the rear wheel on the ground when braking. A Showa Big Piston USD fork with size 41 stanchions runs on the front wheel. An electronically controlled steering damper is also installed. The rear wheel is in a weight-optimized aluminum swing arm.
The wheelbase of the new CBR 600 RR is 1,375 millimeters and the arm length is 573 millimeters. The steering head angle is indicated with 24 degrees for 6 minutes, the caster with 100 millimeters.
Winglets for the fairing
Honda also wants the fairing to be aerodynamically optimized. The central air inlet is now located between the slot-shaped LED headlights in the nose of the fairing. The turn signals also use LED technology. The fairing flanks were equipped with small winglets to increase the downforce on the front wheel. The 18 liter tank was lowered by 10 millimeters. In the cockpit, the CBR 600 RR now has a color TFT display with a choice of four display modes. A lap timer is also integrated. The display is controlled via buttons on the left steering stub. A keyless system is available for an extra charge, while a brake light that indicates emergency braking by flickering light comes as standard.

Honda had removed the old CBR 600 RR from its model range, at least in Europe, due to the Euro4 standard that had been in force since 2016. At the time, it seemed that 600 athletes were a thing of the past. However, they celebrated "small" Super athletes last a kind "Mini"-Comeback, as demonstrated by the Yamaha YZF-R6 and the Kawasaki ZX-6R. Now Honda is also returning to the 600 super sports car market, but not with us. The USA will not receive the little athlete either.

Conclusion
The new Honda CBR 600 RR has become a delicious sport bike. Japanese pricing doesn’t seem excessive either. It’s a shame that the 600s can’t start a world career.
