Husqvarna TE 510 for 2004 (V)
On the go
The new one is an old friend, or is she not? In the 2004 model year the KTM 400 EXC Racing is returning ?? but it has changed. Thanks to its new manifold, it develops noticeably more torque in the lower speed range, without the ?? like the big sister 450 EXC ?? to lose their gentleness, so loved by many. With this engine characteristic, the 400 is made for demanding terrain. On classic enduro terrain, at most a handful of well-trained professionals need more power than the 45 hp
open sport version.
The plastic parts experienced further innovations. The entire rear end now consists of a single part. That saves weight. Likewise, the thinner-walled frame tubes, the new connecting parts of the frame in the area of the swing arm mount and the thinner muffler shell are supposed to keep things dry-
reduce weight, the factory specification is 117 kilograms.
On the chassis side, in addition to the annually revised tuning of the fork and the directly hinged strut, the swing arm, which is ten millimeters longer, is worth mentioning. It is supposed to provide better traction, which was not understandable during the test laps on a dry enduro course.
Husqvarna is going the opposite way in the coming model year and is upgrading the well-known TE 450 to the TE 510. Tired of performance? True to this motto, the new one seems to literally explode with every turn of the throttle. It’s hard to believe that there is »only« seven millimeters more travel between it and the well-known 450 series. The rest of the technology does not differ from that of the 450 with very few exceptions and has remained unchanged compared to the previous year.
With its motocross-like characteristics, the new one prefers extensive, performance-oriented routes. Steep, tricky forest driveways ?? possibly in the rain? require extreme concentration in order to keep the heated temper in check. When it comes to handling, Husqvarna managed to retain a large part of the agility of its smaller sister; the TE 510 looks almost like the TE 450. The Italians also had a lucky hand with the chassis tuning ?? everything fits.
L.Eider future husky pilots will have to be content with an electric starter. There is no mechanical start-up aid in the worst case even as an accessory? Completely incomprehensible on a bike with professional standards.
