New Moto Guzzi models
In small
Since Moto Guzzi was swallowed by Piaggio at the end of December 2004, the small-series manufacturer with the big name has slowly been on the up again. In the year of the takeover, only 3,959 motorcycles left the factory in Mandello. In 2005 there were at least 6975 vehicles. An increase of 76 percent.
The new Breva 1100 with a heavily renovated V-twin cylinder, precise six-speed gearbox and pivoting rear-axle drive and torque support contributed to this success. It was followed by the Griso, a mixture of cruiser and muscle bike with an identical drive.
Completely unexpectedly, Moto Guzzi is now pushing 850 variants of both models. The reduction in displacement from 1064 to 877 cm3 is only achieved with a modified crankshaft and with a 14 millimeter less stroke. The only distinguishing feature of the Griso 850 is the dominant, laterally arranged oil cooler on the engine housing. With adapted engine management, the slightly higher-revving twin generates 75 hp and a maximum torque of 70 Nm. Adjusted to the changed power and speed, the 850s come with a shorter primary gear ratio ?? 23/36 instead of 24/35 ?? out.
In practice, the differences between the 1100 and 850 engines are clearly noticeable. The otherwise so greedy thundering and trembling V-Twin protects-
Hardly any longer, the mechanical noises typical of Guzzi come across more muffled, but the sound has remained. The engine hangs neatly on the gas. But instead of shining from below with full draft, the lively looking two-valve engine has to be kept happy with revs. From around 4500 rpm it comes into action, only to suddenly turn into the limiter at 8200 rpm.
The Griso 850 is available in Germany for 10,590 euros, i.e. 1400 euros under the 1100 Griso. The B.reva 850 is available for 9,990 euros, from the middle of the year also with ABS. It is already available for the 1100s. The system developed by Bosch / Brembo (8M series) is already used in the Ducati ST3S and makes the front wheel of the Breva whistle in the normal range and lets the rear wheel take off unintentionally at the limit. With ABS, the 1100 Breva costs 11590 euros, without 10990. nk
