Race bike: Ducati Berlin
The Speedfighter from Ducati Berlin
Content of
Largely unexplored in space, the terrestrial version of dark matter poses no mystery. This jet-black Ducati is a high-quality branding iron.
Even the name of the black racer makes you sit up and take notice: Speedfighter. A look at the performance diagram shows that the converted Ducati S.treetfighter lives up to its new name. 180 PS and 139 Nm promise pure dynamism. For this, the men from Ducati Berlin put the drive from the Superbike 1198 into the chassis of the street fighter. In addition, they donated the bike a striking underseat exhaust (Termignoni) with huge 70s manifolds and cheekily shortened end pots. These fit perfectly under the chic, converted rear fairing, which comes from a Duc 1098. In addition to more power and a sharper look, the exhaust offers another advantage: It gives the right foot enough space on the rest, which the standard system does not allow. To ensure that there is always enough ignitable mixture flowing into the combustion chambers, the dealer switched a Power Commander in front of the Italian’s slightly modified engine electronics.
As if pulled by a herd of wild bulls, the shorter-translated Berliner shoots through the Hockenheimer Arena. It depends perfectly on the gas and delivers its punch very evenly. Sudden power surges are just as foreign to black people as annoying drops in performance. The technicians also put a lot of effort into the chassis. The original rims went to the shelves, carbon rims with Bridgestone BT 003 RS tires serve as replacements. When it comes to the suspension elements, the tuners put their trust in a TTX strut from Ohlins at the rear, and modified the interior of the standard fork. On the outside, carbon-coated dip tubes and black anodized standpipes adorn the fork. A high-quality steering damper from Sweden replaces the non-adjustable standard part.
Thanks to the changes to the suspension, the front and rear work synchronously – a significant improvement on the series. In addition, the Speedfighter roars around the corner in an extremely stable and precise manner. Small downer: Despite its weight reduced by 18 to 179 kilograms and the light rims, the Duc needs some strength when cornering. A brake pump with adjustable leverage is used on the brake system. Crisp pressure point, perfect dosing, high transparency, ingenious effect: the biters leave nothing to be desired. An anti-hopping clutch with aluminum friction disks prevents brake stamping; If necessary, the Speedfighter glides smoothly into the corners with the rear wheel turned on.
