Review of the Wunderlich BMW F 800 Supermoto
BMW Supermoto conversion
There is hardly a wish that the accessories specialist Wunderlich BMW drivers cannot fulfill in their catalog. Only a supermoto conversion that was missing. Now this gap has also been closed.
D.he basis: a BMW F 800 GS. The focus of the conversion: a 17-inch front wheel with its own hub so that the F-owner who wants to convert does not have to dismantle his original wheel.
For a little more pep in terms of performance and sound, the F 800 Supermoto was fitted with a Remus hexagonal damper, and its chassis was made fit with harder fork springs and matching oil as well as a spring strut with hydraulic preload and adjustable rebound stage from Ohlins. Just in case, a legion of protective bars ensures that exposed parts such as heat exchangers, regulators or rear brake fluid reservoirs do not break. Touring riders, on the other hand, are more likely to flirt with the handlebar weight with a knurled screw, a kind of mechanical cruise control. Exactly, speed, now we are driving. The Remus silencer translates the boring o-tone into a snotty, throaty growl, goes well with the cheeky Supermoto appearance. The seating position, on the other hand, is more upright, relaxed and casual thanks to the combination of the standard handlebar and the Wunderlich bench, which reduces the seat height by ten millimeters.
Artist
The bench reduces the seat height by ten millimeters, the comfort is excellent.
It’s also very easy going through the first corners. The smaller front wheel results in a steering head that is two degrees steeper and a correspondingly shorter caster. with an invigorating effect for the rather leisurely handling of the series F 800. Turning in is easy and you can swing easily over winding streets. The engine also revives noticeably thanks to the retrofit damper. From 4000 rpm, it lags behind the series in terms of performance and liveliness. However, the sporting talents of the SM have their limits. Not only because changes in direction still require strength at high speeds. On the one hand are the spring elements ?? especially the shock absorber ?? rather comfortably tuned, for seriously sporty insoles there is a lack of damping and steering precision. On the other hand, the SM looks a bit wobbly on large slopes. Their great strength lies in the added shot of maneuverability and suspension comfort in the enjoyable, swift curve swing.
So if you primarily want to give your F 800 GS a beating on the streets and like to take longer tours in a relaxed manner, you should take a look at the Wunderlich catalog; Info: www.wunderlich.de.
