The sports war has never been so violent. Large 1000 cc cruisers carry such heavy artillery on board that it is frightening. But now, the small 125cc fighters hold a prominent place in the battle.. The eighth-liter 4 stroke front, which did not exist 10 years ago, has become strategic for most of the generals. Appeared in 2008, the Yamaha YZF-R 125 is already the oldest. In front of her are a new version Honda CBR 125 R, a brand new Aprilia RS4, and Rieju’s new terror: this RS3.
Replacing the RS2, this little sportswoman is carefully working on her weapons. More modern, the design is sharpened in a style that catches the eye. The long and imposing fairing panels have given way to very straight elements, more Germanic than Spanish. We could almost feel the facies of R6 in the style of the fork crown. Much thinner, the rear part ends with a very stylish LED headlight. Sitting next to its rivals, this RS3 is not afraid to engage in the fight.
It is that she has taken a head, or rather a front end in her evolution. It doesn’t laugh around the wheel anymore, especially with an upside-down fork, 280mm disc, radial caliper and aviation hose – stuff you didn’t even see on an NSR 125 that put out a lot more horsepower.
Arg… ..! Let’s stop complaining about the abandonment of the 2-stroke and welcome the close collaboration between Rieju and Minarelli. This engine manufacturer supplies the Spanish manufacturer, but also the giant Yamaha. The heart of this RS3 is a known mechanics because it is the same block which pushes the YZF-R 125. A mono all that there is more modern with 4 valves, injection, liquid cooling and 15 good horses in the housings. With 128 kg on the scale, the Rieju offers almost the same weight / power ratio as the Yam. But the Spaniard is cheaper and its fork adds a more racing touch. The Japanese, for her part, enjoys an even more marked and terribly seductive style..
Even if the motor spewed out twice as many watts, it would have a hard time stressing the beefy aluminum swingarm. Less noble, the frame is made of steel but its perimeter structure in triangular spars inspires seriousness and rigidity. This part-cycle will play on curves and trajectories while laughing. It remains to be seen whether the suspensions will be rigorous enough.
On the other hand, by becoming RS3, the Iberian sportswoman also weighed in at 1,000 euros. Not funny for the kids’ piggy bank.
