Road rallies - Emmanuel Siaux trades his Yamaha for a Buell -

The day after his good performance at the Rallye de la Sarthe, the talented and nonetheless sympathetic driver Emmanuel Siaux, at the head of the provisional classification in the 2007 French Rally Championship, agreed to entrust him to Site. Interview.

Last December, when he signed his contract with Buell, Emmanuel Siaux already sensed "an exceptional machine". Because we suspect that given its pedigree, the animal would not have accepted to ride on an onion !

Interview with the friendly Manu the day after his excellent performance at the Rallye de la Sarthe (read).

Site: What was your journey from a Yamaha 450 WR to the new Buell XB12STT ?
Emmanuel Siaux : Well I touched the sensitive point at Buell when at the Dark Dog Moto Tour, knowing Denis Bouans (winner of the 2006 edition), I advised him when he was a rival. They liked this "fair play" aspect … Because even when it was in front of me, I still recommended it! And then in view of my results and touched by my sportsmanship, Xavier Chachuat (Harley France) came to offer me to ride for them in 2007: Denis was taken with the French Superbike Championship, Bruno Destop and Alain Amalric were in Protwin. .. So I did the job well for their involvement in the world of road rallies !

Site: You have then been put in touch with a dealer ?
E. S. : Yes, it is with American Moto, the official Buell dealer in Toulouse, that I was able to test motorcycles. So I tested my driving on Denis’s and on an Ulysses, but the STT is such a compromise between these two machines that I immediately felt at ease. I said to myself: we will try !

Site: More comfortable than on your mono? What was Yamaha’s reaction ?
E. S. : It is not comparable! Well, it’s true that Yamaha France lent me the motorcycles but following my contract with Buell I had no response. At the start they would have liked to keep me but they already had Thomas (Laroche, editor’s note) so it wasn’t that bad, I think they have enough representative pilots.

Site: No regrets on your part? The Buell is still a few pounds heavier than the Yam !
E. S. : No regrets ! On this Buell I immediately felt it was going to be good. I have never driven such a good stock motorcycle! Of course, to exploit it to the extreme, a little preparation is necessary: a timing adjustment for example. For the cycle part, it would simply be necessary to change the oil at the rear and for the front, it is probably necessary to change the stacking of the valves because it lacks relaxation..

Site: Given your result at La Sarthe, how do you see the rest of the championship? ?
E. S. : If we modify my bike as I wish, it will certainly be able to fight for the first place! Everything will depend on the types of specials … The problem is that Serge (the Grolandais Knight, Editor’s note) composes with two motorcycles (an R1 and a 450 WR, Editor’s note). He will therefore always be on good ground when I cannot choose! And then there is Thomas Laroche who is very regular and goes well everywhere! In addition, you must always be wary of other motorcycles pushing behind and which once tuned may be dangerous! By changing his bike during the season, Serge handicaps himself for the title of the category … But that’s not his objective, he wants the scratch or nothing! Me, I’ll do everything for Topsport and if possible the scratch. Difficult, but playable! The first one to go wrong will have lost, so it’s up to me to put the pressure on them … That’s also the rally! As we often see each other at the start of specials, we play intoxicating … it’s fun !

Site: What did you dislike about this first Championship event ?
E. S. : I agree with Nuques, it’s hard to manage because the time tracking during the race is very poor. It’s up to us to compose and it’s difficult.

Site: For the preparation of the machine, Buell France takes care of it ?
E. S. : No, the bike is Buell France, but American Moto has invested with its team for the "rally" preparation of my STT. For Harley Buell Toulouse, the competition is very new, it is the first time that they face it and I found their team very professional with a super good spirit, so I trust them and I hope that the result of the first rally will motivate them even more to develop the machine !

Site: Thank you Manu. Well, I’ll take you on my roads ?
E. S. : It left my Kiki !

Seeing Emmanuel pass in a super clean way made me want to get on his STT too much … Unfortunately I was not sufficiently equipped to really ride with it, but the few turns I was able to do really thrilled me: total pleasure! super natural position, purr that inspires confidence…

This monster is in fact very manoeuvrable and does not seem to have any handling faults. Everything seems natural, except for the ignition key which I had a little trouble finding: on the left side of the fork crown !

An excellent bike anyway, and given how much Manu feels at ease on it, the 2007 road rally championship promises to be exciting … Another big customer for the title, certainly. !
