Tuyaucom faced with the deafening silence of Road Safety…
Pierre Trotoux, brilliant inventor of Tuyaucom, continues his fight with the Ministry of the Interior to lift the ban affecting his clever communication system between the biker and his passenger. Problem: the administration contacted by MNC has been turning a deaf ear for five years now…
Remember: in June 2015 already, the Journal moto du Net was moved by the entry into force of decree 2015-743 prohibiting the use while driving communication systems connected to in-ear headphones or to a headphone. From this date, only the kits integrated in the helmet of the bikers or in the passenger compartment of the cars via a wireless connection were only tolerated..
- MNC of June 25, 2015 : Tuyaucom threatened by the ban on handlebars
- MNC of June 18, 2015 :
At the time, this decision advocated by Road Safety was mainly aimed at wired hands-free kits supplied with telephones, which motorists too often used to call while driving. Problem: this ban – accompanied by a fine of 135 euros and 3 points – also sounded the death knell for the invention of Pierre Trotoux, Tuyaucom…
Remember that this brilliant device of simplicity and efficiency transports sound "naturally" between the pilot and his passenger via two flexible pipes. Each ends with a plastic piece that serves as a "mic" and sends sound to the other end in a molded ear cup. No batteries, no settings or buttons to tamper with by letting go of the handlebars with one hand, but unfortunately this concept of headset and wired connection now banned by the new legislation.
From Lepine competition to scrapping…
Contacted by MNC during the summer of 2015, Pierre Trotoux expressed both spite and a feeling of injustice: "it is hardly credible! I received the medal of the Minister of the Interior at the Lepine competition in 1998 for Tuyaucom , and today this same ministry signs its death warrant ", he was indignant at this decree which entailed the de facto ban on using Tuyaucom on motorbikes or scooters, with a catastrophic effect on his business…
A hell of a blow when Pierre Trotoux – almost 70 years old – was in negotiations to sell his business, even if his sales suffered from the inevitable success of more attractive and versatile Bluetooth intercoms: from "15,000 per year in 2004 / 2005 ", Tuyaucom already only sold around" 850 units per year "the year before the famous decree.
"At the beginning of 2015 we had found a buyer, but in front of the information which circulated on the measures of the DSR, he preferred to withdraw his candidacy", he regretted while informing us of his request for exemption from the Ministry of the Interior for highlight among other things the lesser impact of Tuyaucom on the driver’s attention compared to a Bluetooth kit and its multiple functions.
MNC – which is just testing an electronic intercom at the moment – can attest to this: they tend to disconnect from driving and to "isolate" the driver phonetically by offering music, telephone, GPS, voice search … while driving! Incompatible, in many circumstances, with the necessary attention on a motorcycle: how to anticipate dangers with music in the ears or, worse, in yelling phoning with his other half ?
In the city, avoiding a collision is often due only to this almost inconcient analysis of the risks in reaction to the perception of the surrounding noises developed by the motorcyclist: this honking of the horn several cars upstream which announces a slowdown, this screeching of tires just behind warning of a possible collision or even this characteristic hydraulic hiss triggered by this bus, there, pu..ain, which suddenly hits !
The pipe is blocked ?!
Five years later, the indefatigable entrepreneur based in Pont-d’Ouilly (14) still pleads his case, despite the failure of his efforts and the indifference of the administration: his request for exemption was rejected by the Council. State in 2017, while the road safety delegate never deigned to meet him. The replacement of Emmanuel Barbe, will she be more attentive ?

- MNC of June 25, 2020 :
Not the type to give up, Pierre Trotoux therefore sent a long letter to Road Safety in which he re-explains the interests of Tuyaucom, while pointing out certain contradictions of the new legislation. The inventor has sent us this precise and abundantly documented file, in which he notably includes press articles which question the possible dangers of electronic intercoms..
Tuyaucom at Ixtem Moto |
"While in 2015, Astumania (a company created by Pierre Trotoux and his wife to market in particular Tuyaucom, Editor’s note) had 650 points of sale, today it only has one reseller:" regrets M. Trotoux at MNC.
A logical disaffection with the ban which affects Tuyaucom since 2015. But the tricolor invention can still be partially used: "Only the pilot is not allowed to use his headset", tells us his inventor. "But he can always use the" microphone "function to warn his passenger of possible acceleration or immediate danger … without having to turn around!" |
In his letter, Pierre Trotoux explains that he went to the reception of the Direction de la securite routière (DSR) on "November 25, 2019" to meet a manager and hand him his file, "but none was available, "he regrets. Undoubtedly too busy polishing the "" fa (u) meuse "" on a motorcycle or compiling statistics justifying the proliferation of ?!
The inventor then deposited "several documents" to a person who did not "disclose his identity", before sending an email to the address indicated to "know to which address and to what attention I could send my file. ". Request remained unanswered to this day, in a perfect example of administrative contempt…
In his file, the septuagenarian recalls the virtues of Tuyaucom such as its absence of complex adjustments and its ecological aspect: "no batteries or electronic waste to recycle", he underlines skillfully, while the environment is – officially – at the center of all the concerns of the government.
Practical and ecological: a logic that escapes the DSR !
Not opposed to the development of Bluetooth kits, Pierre Trotoux ensures that he is living with the times and appreciating progress but points out some inconsistencies with their use: "to change functions, the rider must press a specific button (…): this forces him to let go of the handlebars with his left hand, balancing on two-wheeled vehicles. Road Safety authorizes this dangerous maneuver: we think we are dreaming! "
"This gesture is also exactly the same as the motorist who calls while driving and to whom it will cost 3 points and a fine of 135 euros. And yet, it is the Tuyaucom which is prohibited because it has an earpiece worn at the ear ", protests the inventor.
Road Safety kicks in
Questioned on this subject by the Journal Moto du Net, the Direction of road safety boot in touch: "the Council of State has already rendered its decision on July 10, 2017, you can find it on the. It is impossible to make a exception on a regulatory text ", answers Alexandra Therizol, deputy head of the press and news office of Road Safety.
An administrative impasse which leaves a bitter taste in Pierre Trotoux: "today at 73 years old, besides the fact that my wife and I are still in business, what do we do with the stock which should allow us to manufacture 15,000 Tuyaucom (at 59 , 30 euros for the complete kit, Editor’s note)? ", He wonders, noting from the war weary that" this is another story and nobody cares "…
But yes, Mr. Trotoux: your story continues to preoccupy the Site editorial staff and its readers, who are perhaps among the some "290,000 motorcyclists" who used this French invention – and made in France! – from 1996 to 2015 … Perhaps by pulling a Tuyaucom to Place Beauvau, the message would finally reach who it may concern ?!
