Triumph Tiger 1050 test: the three-legged tiger !
Road trail, big supermoto, sporty road? The Triumph Tiger 1050 does not care about labels that can be stuck on the back. What she likes is riding, that’s all! So we tried it on 2500 km: report.
With a few details…
The Tiger takes care even more than in the past of the reception of the pilot and his passenger. The equipment is complete and of good quality, even if there are still some rather regrettable equipment gaps given the ultra versatile vocation of the 1050.
For example, as with all Triumphs, you have to do without a coded key immobilizer. It’s a shame, but the Tiger can be forgiven by being the only machine in the range of the English manufacturer to be able to carry more than a disc lock..
Under the passenger seat, we are indeed pleased to discover a beautiful location that can accommodate a chain or a small U. Nice effort !
These little details that annoy
To cut the road serenely, we would also have liked to be able to count on a central stand to maintain the chain kit and clean the machine. In addition, the side stand is not ideal: devoid of a pin, it is not very easy to deploy but above all, it is much too sharp..
Fine-tune your Tiger |
Passing through Orange (84) during our test, a little visit to Yvon de Touratech France is unavoidable. Temple of the BMW GS and real Ali Baba’s cave for the adventurous biker, there is also a whole range of accessories for the Tiger 1050: all kinds of various and varied protections, plethora of luggage as well as the essential extension of side stand spatula. To know more : . |
Be careful on soft ground and even on sunny asphalt, because it’s hard to find your motorcycle on the ground! This problem can however be easily solved thanks to the offers of certain accessories manufacturers such as Touratech (see box opposite).
To put an end to the small criticisms, note that the on-board computer, also quite complete, does not have a gear indicator engaged as well as the outside temperature..
But if we blame its small faults so much, it is because for the rest, the Tiger 1050 is almost faultless! The presentation is flattering and the finish of a good standard. The instrumentation is complete and readable, except for the two trips and the odometer which are too small. It is also a pity that we cannot scroll through the information using a button on the handlebars and that we have to lean on the dashboard while driving.
The information provided is numerous: maximum and average speeds, instantaneous and average consumption, remaining range, time, driving time, etc. In addition, the bike in our test was equipped with optional ABS (700 €) as well as an Arrow silencer at 639 €.
For big (!) Riders
To climb on the Triumph, you have to send a hell of a circular kick in the air … A kind of super Mawashi Geri, for karatekas! It is indeed necessary to pass the leg above the passenger saddle which culminates very high, which will make do a little gymnastics at more than 1.80 m and will require a real effort for others.
Once in the saddle, the little ones will hardly be at the party anymore since the saddle is quite high and wide: a 1m81 rider is found on tiptoe on both sides! But for the rest, it’s happiness! The position is very natural, both in terms of the footrests and the handlebars. Everything is well proportioned, whether it is the width of the saddle and the handlebars or the height of the screen.
