Yamaha XSR 900 test: the MT-09 puts 3-legs in the retro
After the XSR700 imagined in collaboration with Japanese designer Shinya Kimura on the basis of MT-07, Yamaha is expanding its Faster Sons range with a more muscular bike: the XSR900, designed from the MT-09 roadster and its turbulent 3-cylinder… Test !
Verdict: sensations, timeless pleasure ?
What type of bikers is this Yamaha XSR900 for? In which category of motorcycles does it really fit? At the end of this first test, let’s admit that the answers do not appear clearly … On the one hand, it plays vintage, but on the other it sweats modernity: aluminum frame and peripherals "up to date ", sophisticated ride-by-wire, adjustable handlebar maps and traction control…
What’s more, his playful and sporty temperament appears to be slightly out of step with his look, more or less retro-inspired. But insofar as almost everything comes from the MT-09, this assessment is not really a surprise: a motorcycle of today cannot distill the flavors of yesteryear, especially when it comes to ‘a vitamin roadster like the MT-09 !
