Yamaha Xmax 125 test: the return of the king of scooters 125 ?
Destroyed by the Forza 125 in 2015 after 10 years of unchallenged reign, the Xmax 125 wants to recover its crown in 2018. To do this, the Yamaha scooter "made in MBK" receives a good number of developments that Site has been able to test: direction Versailles… and its castle of course !
Xmax 125 test page 1 – Yamaha goes on a crusade
Launched in 2006, the Xmax 125 enabled motorists and bikers – reasonable or broke? – to drive a replica of the phenomenal Tmax 500 released five years earlier. The success was immediate, especially in France where more than half of the production was sold: 58% exactly of the 140,943 units (Skycruiser and Evolis included) sold between 2006 and 2016!
Across Europe, the Xmax 125 "first of the name" (2006-2009) sold 61,741 copies. The motorcycle and scooter market was then running at full speed, like the financial markets. But they stayed too long in the red zone…
After a bad year 2009 – bad for many people – the Xmax 125 took advantage of its update to fuel again. His dominance in France continued for the next three years, despite declining scores. On our continent, the 2010-2013 model ensured 49,014 new sales to the Blues d’Iwata.
The birth of the third generation allowed Yamaha to relaunch itself, but timidly and only in 2014. The following year was marked by the advent of a new king in the GT-sport scooter segment: the Forza 125 , more aggressive than its predecessors Pantheon and S-Wing !
As a preamble to the European launch of the new Xmax 125 2018 in Paris, Clement Villet, head of the motorized two-wheeler division at Yamaha Motor Europe, takes advantage of the press conference to analyze the sales figures of the Xmax 125 in France.
Deliberately and logically omitting to point out the success of the new competitor Honda to explain the decline of the Yamaha bestseller over the past two years, our host notes that "the novelty effect is very important in this sector"…
It is clear that at each renewal of his scooter, the sacrosanct growth was at the rendezvous. With its Xmax "IV" therefore, Yamaha therefore sets out again on a crusade with the dual objective of increasing the volume of sales … and "regaining the leadership", concedes this time Clement Villet.
To do this, the tuning forks firm listened to its customers. A survey carried out in France with a sample of 200 owners of the Xmax 125 thus revealed that the majority of them (30%) put the design and finish of their scooter at the top of their preferences. The "French Touch" effect of MBK, no doubt…
Indeed, the Xmax is not only appreciated in France (10 years at the top of the 125 sales!): It is also built there! The MBK plant in St-Quentin (02), from which no more MotoBeKane two-wheelers will be released next year – the brand is put on hold – continues more than ever to produce the Xmax 125, 300 and 400 range !
If the Minarelli engines come from Italy – from Bologna more exactly, like the Ducati! -, the frames of Yamaha scooters are made in the Aisne, the fairings are also molded and painted, and everything is assembled there! Carefully elsewhere…
