Short test: Suzuki VS 400 Intruder
Lease
There are motorcycles that are not officially offered in Europe. One of them is called Suzuki VS 400.
MOTORCYCLE market – Eldorado for hunters, gatherers and the curious. Endless classifieds. And again and again these tempting offers from the gray importers: "Super cheap, only so and so many marks for a Hideldud XYZ." Sometimes machines you have never heard of. Especially 400cc – in Japan because of the harassing driving license conditions much demanded, in this country hardly noticed. One of them is the Suzuki VS 400 GL Intruder. For 9990 Marks at Jan’s motorcycle shop in Emlichheim.
We were curious and ordered the 33 hp chopper to find out that there are good reasons why it is not officially imported by Suzuki Germany: The displacement dwarf is about as much fun as an electrically operated kitchen appliance. Fulfills its function – that’s it.
Not because of the chopper feeling: With a species-appropriate, low-speed riding style, you run the risk of falling into anesthesia on this bike. In order to elicit something like temperament from the V2 engine, it really has to be wrung out: throttle on stop, gear lever in constant use. According to the test bench postponement, the weak-chested guy develops his peak performance at a hectic 8300 revolutions. In such high regions, however, the Suzuki vibrates and screeches terrifyingly.
While inexperienced renownedists may be pleased that the VS 400 does not look any different from a VS 600 or 800, realists who are familiar with the traditions of the Intruder clan know about the great disadvantage of this equality: a landing gear to run away – less stable than the current economic climate. There was no bump in the ground that would not make the vehicle roll, no sharper curve in which the trumpet of the footrest would not touch down threateningly. Hitting the right line on an Intruder has a lot to do with luck. Even if it goes straight ahead, from 100 km / h the slightest stimulus – even if it is just a breath of wind – is enough to throw the Suzuki off track.
S.o None of this is really funny, and for just under 10,000 marks you can certainly have more fun. Goal there isn’t much more choppers for this money.
