Test: Tuning Yamaha
Race bike: Small Yamaha XJR 1300

Steel, polished aluminum, stainless steel and an immense 1300 cubic meters with the PS-TunerGP. No lightweight construction, no disguise – the material for a thriller is in the air.
The story Dominik Klein is about being as gripping have a thriller Yamaha XJR 1300 project can tell. He proudly reports on the idea of taking go in the PS TunerGP with a fat old school naked steamer. Tells of mysterious ways in which many special parts found him and his XJR. He spared neither sacrifice nor effort, many parts were built especially for this beauty. And while he is talking, the tire warmers heat up the slicks.
The starting shot is fired, I’m burning for the Hockenheim circuit with the mighty Yam. Completely calmly and precisely, she draws her line, flies vehemently towards the Sachskurve. The feeling when braking is sublime. The measured braking deceleration of 10.2 m / s² shows how hard the pliers of a Yamaha MT-01 grind the brake discs and achieve a top value. Thus, diving the fork is completely legitimate, as is the slightly prancing tail. The XJR conveys confidence in the front wheel from the first meter and thus makes these braking attacks possible. Its surprising maneuverability tempts you to shoot faster and faster towards the apex, but unfortunately the lean angle is noisily slowed down by the side stand that touches down, despite the bike being raised. Stand dismantled, problem eliminated. Almost, now only the stand holder located further inside is attached – but not until much later.

Dominik Klein’s Yamaha XJR 1300: A naked bike for cornering.
The XJR engine is just as unexpected as the racing chassis. The carburetor engine fires the Yam in a few seconds to 210 km / h, the value at which the needle of the analog speedometer docks to the stop. The four-cylinder doesn‘t care, it keeps turning. Only at 249 km / h (a series XJR 1300 has a top speed of 212 km / h) on the additional digital display does the limiter slide in. How cool is that, the XJR goes like hell.
Back in the box, the grin on my face just doesn’t want to go away. And Dominik explains where the enormous increase in thrust and the chassis qualities come from. Massive interventions on the cylinder head, ignition, air filter, exhaust and carburetor ensure this. The precisely adjusted automatic switch hides the long switching paths. The swing arm and the additional frame struts from Over-Racing as well as the revised fork from an MT-01 together with the BKG fork bridges are responsible for the stable driving behavior.

The Yamaha doesn’t look bad on the rear wheel either.
Dominik has raised the rear by twelve millimeters using the Ohlins struts and also mounted even higher tires in the dimension 190 / 55-17 on a narrow 5.75-inch rim. In this way, the XJR gains the urgently needed freedom from lean angles. While Dominik refueled, he continued to chat about details, crawling deeper and deeper into his XJR: The footpegs are custom-made by BKG, Akrapovic exhaust system, LSL handlebars…
"Sorry Dominik, I’m giving up!" I cheekily take a short break from the Saarland tuner and swing myself back to the wonderful bogus. This XJR thriller has a happy ending because I ride the PS-TunerGP’s most underrated bike. If you still have such an XJR gem in the garage, you should think twice about driving it over to Klein. Just to look, right?!
