FFMoto 2020 conference: the assessment of Jacques Bolle, 12 years president
The annual press conference of the French Motorcycling Federation was held yesterday in Paris. In addition to its fewer guests and all masked, this 2020 edition was special since it marked the end of the three terms of President Jacques Bolle. Review and small interview MNC…
Each end of the year at the Automobile Club de France – a few turns of the wheel from its Parisian headquarters, rue Parmentier -, the French Motorcycling Federation meets with its leaders and champions, partners and journalists, in order to draw up the results of the past season and often brilliant for the Blues.
Exceptionally, the 2020 press conference has been slightly advanced. However, this was expected, long before the Covid-19 pandemic upset sporting calendars, deprived us of our freedom to travel on motorcycles for several weeks and plunged us into unpleasant uncertainty, sad disarray or even deep sorrow….
- Interview Jacques Bolle (FFM):
- MNC special file :
At the previous press conference, Jacques Bolle recalled that his – third and last – term as president of the FFMoto would end on October 9, 2020, the date of the elective general assembly. He therefore made an appointment at the beginning of October to take stock of his twelve years at the head of the federation … It was yesterday, so.
“On September 8, 2008, when I was elected President of the French Motorcycling Federation, 23 years of investment in the institution were spent,” remembers the winner of the GP250 from Great Britain 1983 to Silverstone: A victory obtained in front of two compatriots (Espie and Sarron) and relayed in the television news of Yves "Monsieur Moto" Mourousi !
"After having served as chairman of the road racing commission and chairman of the Île-de-France motorcycling league, it was a whole other adventure that awaited me. I was prepared for it and today ‘hui, I can summarize the mission entrusted to me and measure the progress made with a certain pride ", estimates the president of the FFMoto.
It is in ten themes that Jacques Bolle drew up his presidential assessment. The first ? The policy of acquiring practice sites which led the federation to buy 15 motocross and trial grounds, the management of which remains entrusted to a local association.
Save practice sites, including Circuit Carole
"During my presidency, four or five projects for new speed circuits were launched, none succeeded", regrets the president. Hence the second project undertaken and crowned with success: the acquisition in 2012 of the Carole circuit !
- MNC of December 20, 2011:
As a reminder, formerly owned by the state and managed by the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, the Ile-de-France circuit would undoubtedly have disappeared without the intervention of the federation. "We took over the management of the Carole Circuit in 2012, and we were profitable from 2014" … While keeping the 26 free weekends, hat helmet low !
Jacques Bolle then congratulated himself on the increase in the number of licensees (around 100,000 over the past four years, of which around a quarter were "pass circuit"), the optimized insurance policy (read our), the financial support for the organizing motorcycle clubs (which no longer have to pay calendar fees to organize events, but instead receives a subsidy of 1650 euros).
Launched in September 2019, the Endowment Fund for Motorcycling Sport Heritage is another initiative taken by the future ex-president of FFMoto, wishing to "safeguard and enhance the history of motorcycle racing at the national level" , for example by publishing books.
This FDPSM must prevent the memory of motorcycle sport from being lost forever: "I remember the tears of the two federal photographers when I learned that their images – tens or hundreds of thousands of slides – had been put in the bulky to free place at the seat ", illustrates Jacques Bolle.
Another strong point of his presidency: securing Motocross circuits, although he readily admits that this project was brought to him by a certain Michael Pichon, motocross champion who also rides for fun on speed circuits and who regretted that the public is not as well protected on MX grounds.
Eighth theme addressed during this exceptional press conference (and mentioned in our smart-video interview, see the bottom of the article): the defense of practice, and not just sport! Motorcycling in general…
- MNC of September 2, 2020:
- MNC of September 19, 2020:
On several occasions the French Motorcycling Federation has collaborated with other motorcycle players in France (FFMC, CSIAM, Codever, CNPA mainly) to defend motorcycles and bikers. Latest example: denunciation – and cancellation! – the compulsory wearing of a mask on a motorcycle in Paris and its inner suburbs.
Promote sport and its champions, defend motorcycles !
The penultimate project concerns the president himself, through the reform of the governance of the French motorcycling federation: limitation to three terms of the function of president (maximum age of 70 years for the candidates) and widening of the base electoral (from 36 large voters to 130).
Finally and to finish in style, Jacques Bolle underlines "his" successes in competition! The team titles are logically those of which they are the most proud, and since 2008, France has won by less than 29 world titles … against only 8 since the creation of the FFM in 1913! What reassure those who doubted and still doubt the selections made by the president and his national technical direction ?
"Twelve years after being appointed to the management, I easily concede, the period seemed both short and long. My feeling is that of a job accomplished. The Federation has changed and I think I have moved the lines" , concludes the president of the FFM (for one more day) and vice-president of the FIM (for two years!).
"Today, despite the troubled period, the Federation is in excellent health," said Jacques Bolle, relieved to have "passed the year 2020 with difficulty but without drama and without layoffs". He would also like "to warmly thank all the employees and elected officials for their involvement with me, which was also flawless".
"But everything has an end, I am leaving the Federation after these 12 enriching years and I wish that of tomorrow to have new successful leaders who are driven by the same passion". See you at the end of 2021 on MNC to take stock of the next president. And good flights to the old !
