Sport - A speed race for girls only -

Ten years after the disappearance of the Women’s Speed Trophy (1991-1995), itself heir to the Motor’Eve Cup (1988-1991), a new 100% female motorcycle competition was born this year: the Dream Cup 2004. The test by girls ?

New to the world of motorcycle racing, the first Dream Cup will feature only one event this year, on June 19 and 20 on the Carole circuit. But from next year, it should become "a real Cup or a national Challenge of seven or eight events integrating speed and endurance on several circuits including Le Mans, Magny-Cours, Nogaro, Carole, Le Vigeant etc."

Exclusively reserved for women over 16 holding a national license (NCA) or training (NCB), beginners or experienced, the Dream Cup is open to three categories of roadsters:

  • 4 cylinders 600 cc (Honda Hornet, Yamaha Fazer, Suzuki Bandit, Triumph Speed Four …)
  • Twin cylinders less than 750 cc (Suzuki SV 650, Ducati Mostro, Cagiva Raptor …)
  • Two-cylinder 500 cc (Honda 500 CB, Kawasaki 500 GPZ, Suzuki 500 GS …)

Two A and B finals will reconcile the different levels of the competitors. Each A and B final includes four classifications (one scratch and one per category of motorcycles), for a total of eight podiums. Competitors will be able to refine their preparation during a course led by Christophe Guyot on the Carole circuit on April 20 and 21.

"Today it became essential to organize a women’s race as it exists in all other sports", explains the Dream Cup association, partner of MC Lesigny for the organization of the 2004 event on the Carole circuit with the full support of the FFM. The aim of the association is to "favor and encourage the access of women to motorcycle competitions on the circuit. There is Endurose, which is a women’s enduro race, but there was no longer any race. motorcycles in speed and endurance. This is restored with the Dream Cup! ", congratulate the organizers.

This separation between girls and boys is not to the taste of all sports bikers, however. Some fear that they will not be taken seriously enough and fear the lack of credibility of a 100% female competition. "The Dream Cup is a good idea, but the risk is that we start again to denigrate the girls who compete in motorbikes and that we still pass for crybishers", thus explain to Moto-Net Eliane Pscherer and Sandrine Dufils from Team Octopuss: "we don’t need a cut reserved for women to be talked about! In cross country, yes, it makes sense to separate girls from boys. But not in speed. , where the physique is not very important. And riding with boys, it’s not terrible! In addition, we progress much faster! "

Let us hope that the Dream Cup arouses many vocations among girls and see you on June 19 and 20, 2004 on the Carole circuit for the result of this test by girls !

Note also that a 100% female race has also existed in Quebec since 2003: organized by our correspondent in Canada Jean-Marie Pesci, the Women’s Trophy () allows girls to "ride among themselves and start the competition without s’ engage in races with the men ". This year, it will take place on the Mosport, St-Eustache and Shannonville circuits.
