Disappearance of Bernard Pascual
Bernard Pascual, Yamaha dealer and Dakar specialist rally driver, was killed on Monday on a motorcycle on a dirt road near Perpignan when he hit a roller of wire mesh that blocked his way.
Renowned rally driver (14 participations in the Paris-Dakar rally-raid, French rally championship, Moto Tour 2003 and 2004), triple vice-champion of France in motocross and Yamaha dealer in Perpignan, Bernard Pascual was killed on Monday in 51 years old, while riding his motorcycle on a dirt road near Castelnou, near Perpignan.
"This path had long been the subject of a conflict between the municipality of Castelnou and the owner of the surrounding land.", tells AFP the mayor of Castelnou.
Monday around 11 am, while riding a motorbike on this path followed by a friend, Bernard struck a roll of netting. Thrown forward, he would have broken the cervical vertebrae on touching the ground and would have died almost instantly, according to testimonies collected by the gendarmes..
