YZF-R3 2019: ahead of the update of the little sporty Yamaha
Two weeks after the brand new YZF-R125, it’s the R3’s turn to hit the track! Yamaha has focused its efforts on the front of its Supersport 300: fairing, fork, handlebars and fuel tank are modified for the 2019 season but the engine, the chassis and the rear part do not move. Presentation.
In the family of Yamaha sports motorcycles, Site asks for the 300. Good pick! The news is coming out of its box today and is inserted between the, and the R6 and R1 simply repainted.
Launched in, Iwata’s Supersport 300 partially evolves this year: its 321 cc twin cylinder remains unchanged, it continues to develop the 42 hp and 29.6 Nm that is responsible for collecting the same tubular steel frame type " Diamant ", the same asymmetric swingarm and its shock absorber, as well as the same brakes. The weight of the motorcycle does not move one (kilo) gram: 169 kg all full facts.

And yet, the 2019 R3 is clearly different from its predecessor, mainly thanks to its new more enveloping fairing and its face modeled on the MotoGP M1, therefore very close to its road / track siblings. MNC notes the appearance of a central air intake responsible not for stuffing the engine, but better ventilating the radiator.
The engine cooling is not the only point optimized on the small sports car: according to the clever calculations of Japanese engineers, the maximum speed is improved by 8 km / h, via the reduction of 7% of the aerodynamic resistance. The tank is also 20 mm lower (and 31.4 mm wider to keep its 14 liters capacity). We can’t wait to get a point … in Suzuka where ?!
Faster in the straights, the new R3 also promises to be sharper in the curves thanks to the adoption of a fork – now inverted and golden, please -, topped with aluminum triple trees "typical of the series R ", says Yamaha. The handlebars are lowered by 22mm, while the saddle remains at 780mm in height. The position promises to be more "sporty", on track as in town….
While waiting to validate its performance (release scheduled for January 2019 at a price still unknown), the Journal moto du Net must recognize that the R3 is gaining in presence and elegance. Including at the level of the instrumentation which goes to all digital. A small regret all the same: the R3 does not adopt an openwork rear to the R1 / R6. The latter must obviously remain the prerogative – and the tail ?! – large…
