Textile and leather: motorcycle pants and suits

The following applies to all types of motorcycle clothing: Pay attention to the best possible fit when sitting on the motorcycle. Then sleeves and pant legs must be long enough, the collar must not be too tight when closed, and the crotch must not pinch. Not even with the right microfiber underwear. Is there still enough freedom of movement? The protectors should not slip even without a lining, because a width adjustment in the sleeve helps – or a stretch insert in the leather suit.

Disadvantages: Only suitable for high summer with large ventilation openings that can be regulated with a zipper

Advantages: No need to move when the weather changes. Uncomplicated to use

The latest attempt to create two suits in one: The Held Aero Sec has a firmly sewn, waterproof lining that you can either slip into or in front of it

Disadvantages: A bit complicated to use, only airy on one side

Advantages: No extra inner or outer jacket, everything is always with you. Warm and dense in the rain, very well ventilated in the heat

Cons: Not waterproof. With an optimal fit, only thin thermal underwear fits underneath, protection against the cold should be on top

Advantages: Still the best security, does not flutter even at high speed

Kevlar jeans

Jeans with protectors and reinforcements or made entirely of aramid or Kevlar fibers such as the Held Fame II (in the picture after a MOTORRAD drop test from 80 km / h) are now almost full motorcycle trousers with comfort and safety

Disadvantages: protectors, especially on the knees, do not always sit securely against twisting, legs can slide up, not waterproof

Advantages: “Civil” Optics, mostly more comfortable and airier than normal motorcycle trousers, at least as abrasion-resistant as good textile trousers

CE protectors

They belong in every suit. It is best to barely feel them and always sit where they belong. If not, replace if necessary. If it says EN 1621-2, you are on the safe side

Disadvantages: some press, under most you sweat. Make work because they have to be removed when washing

Advantages: If the worst comes to the worst, they prevent or minimize bruises and breaks. Additional benefit: knee protectors keep the knees warm
