Suzuka 8H 2018: victory for Yamaha, title for Honda F.C.C. TSR France
The official Yamaha team takes its fourth consecutive victory at the Suzuka 8 Hours, thus celebrating with panache the 20 years of the R1 in front of the factory Honda and the Kawasaki Team Green. Honda F.C.C. TSR, fifth in Japan, takes first world endurance title.
All the "big guys" were nevertheless united in Japan to counter the hegemonic domination of Yamaha at the Suzuka 8 Hours. But nothing helped: the Factory team of the Blues has once again dictated its law, despite the means deployed by the HRC – and Red Bull – for its official return to Suzuka and the speed displayed by the world champion Jonathan Rea on Team Green’s Kawasaki ZX-10R.

- 8H Suzuka 2017:
Like last year, the official Yamaha team won with Katsuyuki Nakasuga, Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark. The Japanese driver thus beats the record held by Aaron Slight, victorious from 1993 to 1995 at Suzuka: a huge honor at home for Nakasuga, as the 8 Hours are so particularly important..
Disturbed by the rain and several Safety Car interruptions, this 41st edition of the 8 Hours of Suzuka saw the Honda Red Bull With Japan Post lead early in the race, before giving way to a thrilling duel between the Yamaha Factory and the Kawasaki Team Green, started from pole position.
But a fall of Jonathan Rea – just before returning to the pits to switch from slick tires to rain tires – lost precious minutes to the Greens: the "king of the WSBK" and his teammates Kazuma Watanabe and Leon Haslam finally finished third to a winner’s turn…
The official R1, with its, then headed unabated to victory with a 30-second lead over the factory Honda of Takumi Takahashi, Takaaki Nakagami and Patrick Jacobsen..
F.C.C. TSR Honda France, EWC world champion
Another Japanese team is in the spotlight of these 8 Hours of Suzuka: the F.C.C. TSR Honda France, which won the FIM EWC endurance world title at the end of a well-rounded 2017/2018 season. Winner in the crew of the n ° 5 also won in (Germany) on the Honda CBR1000RR supported by the Honda France subsidiary.
The F.C.C TSR Honda France team – shod in Bridgestone – becomes the first Japanese team in history to win the world endurance championship crown. Great recognition on the circuit of their employer for the drivers Josh Hook, Freddy Foray and Alan Techer !
GMT94 leaves endurance through the front door
Despite an increase in pace at the end of the race, the GMT94 Yamaha – EWC title holder – finished in sixth place with David Checa, Niccolo Canepa and Mike Di Meglio. Christophe Guyot’s team finished this 2017/2018 season with runner-up status, seven points behind the successor team. The GMT is also awarded the Anthony Delhalle EWC Spirit Trophy "for his perseverance in the conquest of the world title".
A page is turning for the famous and sympathetic Ile-de-France team, which recently announced its decision to leave endurance racing to devote itself exclusively to the Supersport world championship. Recall that the GMT94 was engaged this year in both disciplines (speed and endurance), a busy program which was not without causing big puzzles due to the date matches between the events..
Among the other teams involved in the entire championship, we note the 9th place of Honda Endurance Racing in the wake of Honda Asia and KYB Moriwaki Motul Racing. The English team Honda Endurance Racing takes 3rd place in the 2017-2018 World Championship.
The Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) finished twelfth at Suzuka, behind two other Suzuki: the GSX-R1000 Yoshimura Suzuki Motul Racing and that of Team Kagayama, delayed in the race by crashes..
