A name: GSR. That’s all and it’s huge. Because with these 3 letters, the manufacturer unveils a new breed of machine in its range: that of the hot roadster. GSF and GSX, these are the names of roadsters from the manufacturer of Hamamatsu; R is sports. This new surname being the association of others, we can easily imagine the concept, that of a Naked machine with a sports mill..
You know the famous Bandit, an excellent motorcycle but which does not really play in the same court as the Honda Hornets, Kawasaki Z 750 and Yamaha FZ6. It lacks the aggressive side and twenty horses. With this GSR, Suz rushes into this niche with seemingly arguments that will hit the mark. The chassis, unprecedented, would have its place on a sport of medium displacement: a beautiful perimeter aluminum frame where an enormous reinforced swingarm is anchored. So there will be watts. Those of the boiler of the 600 GSX-R 2005 with a mapping more suited to a roadster. A little more torque and roundness in lower revs and power revised to around 100 hp. Unless you want at all costs the engine of the 600 GSX-R in a roadster, it is not the choice of engine that will make the difference against the FZ6 or the Hornet. All 3 are equipped with a 4-cylinder supersport developing almost the same power and all having the same character trait: not very full at the bottom and potato at the top … but well at the top.
This typical 600 cc trademark can vary significantly depending on the boiler. And if that of the GSR does not really stand out technically compared to the others, it gives the user a remarkable smoothness, superior to that of its rivals. Those who like to be reassured by a rigorous chassis will appreciate the imperturbable stability of the GSR. The wise values of the chassis clearly define this quality … which will reverberate elsewhere. Stability comes at a price, and on the GSR, it’s agility that pays the price. The front axle lacks liveliness and requires more authority from the rider than the Yamaha or the Honda. Irritating that the direction and the precision of the GSR demand from the sport user an obvious muscular will. But we may like having to rush her a bit, assert your virility on the machine ;-)))
These troublemakers of roadsters had accustomed us to a comfort approaching the Spartan. Suzuki has it all figured out and the GSR offers not only a real saddle with good foam in it, but also suspension that eats up rough roads very well, instead of throwing them in your arms and back. The new Suz scores points in terms of comfort … if only there weren’t the hiccups due to the injection.
Overall, with the GSR, Suzuki does no better or worse than the benchmarks already in place. The more joyful engine does not have the setting completely adapted to its claims. The general comfort, above the lot, is seen scratched by the engine rendering on re-acceleration and the front brake lacking diplomacy. Certainly, this will be the look that will appeal to you more than the rest..
