The sporty Grand Touring version
After the Bandit and the Inazuma, the GSX-F is the last Suzuki model to have
benefited from the heritage of the Suzuki sports engine: the GSX-R. Recently reviewed at
level of lines, the bike has adopted an organic design. Available in 600 and 750 cc, the GSX-F
fits into the category of GT Sports or road sports, in direct competition
with the famous Honda VFR 750/800. Available in gray and black, it is above all
radiant in its champagne livery. And it won’t be your other half who will contradict you
π
Round but slender, the GSX-F 750 stands out for its
lines and its build; nothing suggests that it is – only – a 750 cm3,
apart from an embossed logo on the front and a discreet sticker on the back. In short, the
moto values ββthe biker. Dual optics impresses and swears with peak optics,
of the rear light. The third, central "eye" is used as codes. In lighthouse, the motorcycle
lights up with one eye while in full headlight, it then passes over the two optics.
Installed at the controls, the large panel presents traditional meters
(speed, tachometer and fuel gauge) associated with digital skylights for the
totalizer, the double trip and an independent digital watch (since the vintage
2000) very practical. It’s sober, no frills. As for the commodos, they obey the
usual Suzuki rules, down to the side stand safety that results in
the obligation to disengage to start.
Once installed at the controls, you immediately feel
the model’s sporting heritage: the forward position is lightly supported on the
wrists and legs are clearly curled up, like a "frog".
Despite this, the bust remains relatively straight. The large saddle and the tank
prevent the knees from squeezing the reservoir, making the upper thighs work harder.
Without being uncomfortable, the position surprises at first glance. And then we get used to it, after a few dozen kilometers of
taking marks and we finally feel at ease. The first and second are
pass quickly … as the engine does not seem to like these two speeds. The couple
helping, it is then possible to stay on the other reports, without any need to
juggle speeds. This is where we become aware from 150 cm3
additional compared to a Bandit 600 and especially the much higher torque and this
despite the ten additional kilos. Result, whether solo or duo, the
4 cylinders of the GSX-F starts again without grumbling from 2000 revs, smoothly if one
is in 6th, and more energetically from 6000 laps.
The first kilometers are no surprise apart from the comfort,
Spartan. The saddle is firm – whether for the rider or the passenger – and the
suspensions in factory setting do not like bad roads at all.
And as the road opened up to the west to make a quick Paris-Nantes, I must
admit having been overcome with fear in anticipation by imagining the 400 kilometers
waiting for me, especially since the rain was starting to fall. Direction highway
therefore, to shorten the trip, at least in time. The GSX-F feels there perfectly on
his land. Better, it has such an extension, that in 6th at 130 km / h, it resumes
without problem to overtake safely and without downshifting. Right bust, the
bubble protects very comfortably up to 150 km / h. At this speed consumption
is very reasonable since it revolves around 6 liters per hundred, allowing a
autonomy before reserve of 250 km. If you want to increase the cruising speed –
already unreasonable – you can lower yourself and gain another 20-30 km / h of comfort
additional, without taking the dab position. The interest is all the more obvious that a Bandit in
dab position is dangerous; arms outstretched, body in the center, mastery of a
avoidance is closer to piloting and is reserved for a small number. On the
GSX-F, even lowered behind the screen, the more sporty driving position allows
to keep total and optimal control of the motorcycle for emergency maneuvers
possible. In the end, you benefit from the comfort of a road with
sports availability. And it is a fact, even in the silly version, it is more
easy to take the angle with this model, last point rewarding for the pilot.
The bike is very quickly very homogeneous and the comfort is found at the level of the
braking, powerful and efficient without ever surprising; even the rear brake, thing
rare, is more than a retarder.
As the end of the day arrives, night driving ends the
daytime. We pass a lighthouse and the signage appears clear in the distance. On the other hand, from
that we leave the national roads for forest roads, the full lighthouse becomes
essestial. There, the two optics illuminate at the same time and we benefit
really a lighting worthy of the name, very effective over the entire width of the
road. We blame him for a lack of power over the distance.
Pay attention to the side stand
The GSX-F’s kickstand is relatively straight in design.
Slippery ground or a slight slope and you are guaranteed a fall. The GSX-F cannot
have crankcase protectors, the bill can reach 900 francs (the crankcase,
the seal and 3/4 hours of labor) without counting a grated fairing.
Advice :
never forget to engage the first when stationary before putting the
crutch.
The GSX-F 750 is a motorcycle with two faces, a bit like
the Bandit. A motorcycle that drives quietly on the torque up to 7000 revs, and
which allows to wind quietly on departmental and national. Above the
7000 laps, it reveals its more sporty disposition and does not disdain a more
supported on departmental roads or long journeys on motorways and in all weather. In short,
it is a versatile motorcycle, predisposed to long journeys that will take you without
pain or worry on long journeys. We will blame him for the lack of storage
under the saddle and the obligation to invest in luggage (count around 3500 francs
in addition). But at 49,900 francs (turnkey price), this is an excellent deal.
which will make you look twice before going to competing models like the
Honda VFR 800FI or the Triumph 955 Sprint ST which hit nearly 25,000 francs higher !
The appreciable detail:
– the rear bulb which can be changed simply by unscrewing the base under the saddle
The detail that annoys:
– the lack of storage under the saddle
More :
- price
- look
- motor flexibility
Less :
- no storage
- side stand that folds up easily
Consumption during the test: min: 5.6 / 100km – max: 8L / 100km
Range: 250 km
