Practice lap on the Isle of Man

Content of

Suzuki presented the new Suzuki GSX-S 1000 F confidently in the paradise for road racers – on the Isle of Man. Harakiri or a direct hit for the newcomer? PS found that out.

Noh Cronk-y-Voddy the traffic is slacking off and soon the speed limit is lifted towards Glen Helen. On the Isle of Man that means “full lot”, whatever is possible! Just the thing for our guide, TT legend Milky Quale. As soon as the corresponding sign has passed, he goes full throttle.

Fairing of the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 F aggressively deep drawn

To do this, you have to try hard on the long-stroke four-cylinder of the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 F. Switching easily in fourth gear from strolling in the speed limit zone to TT speed does not work. It means one, better two gears down in the super slippery gearbox – and give it to him! Then something works.

That fits the concept of the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 F. It did not get the fairing to optimize the naked bike GSX-S 1000 for a moderate surcharge (plus 605 euros) and to optimize it for touring second-handers with their loved ones on the back to be completed with case holders at the rear. The F probably stands for “Force”, for sport on the road – case accessories are nil. For this, the fairing is aggressively deep drawn. The sitting posture is much more relaxed than on a Gixxer, but it is also not more relaxed than on the already sporty naked bike.

“Sport-riding on road”

The Suzuki GSX-S 1000 F particularly targets buyers around 40 years of age plus X, who come from the athletes but no longer enjoy tortured wrists over the weekend. “Sport-riding on road” is what Suzuki calls it. Well, nowhere can you test that as well as on the Isle of Man, and so the PS tester heats up after Milky and can try out the advantages of the F. First of all, I like the sound, which engine, airbox and muffler combine to form a bearish symphony. And the propulsion at the appropriate speeds fits perfectly with this soundscape. If the 7000 / min is exceeded, it clicks wonderfully over the island. On the undulating straights in the direction of Ramsey, the Suzuki then regularly lifts off or lifts the front wheel, as with McGuinness and Co. Front moves.

In total, this means about six kilos more for the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 F, and at a speed of 200 – the technicians say – the fairing provides 20 kilos more contact pressure on the front wheel. You can feel that on the fast TT passages, especially when the shower is turned up fully again after light braking. One notices that the front wheel is getting lighter, but there was no danger of the handlebars slapping.

Handling is very good

The handling of the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 F was very popular. It was easy to circled from Ramsey into the mountains, and Gooseneck took just as easily as complicated, quick changes of direction at Joey’s. High-speed alternating curves between Verandah and Kate’s Cottage were also no problem. Up there you could dive deep behind the fairing and feel the enormous advantage of the raised window.

In the Creg-ny-Baa-Right, the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 F showed, as before in the left at Bungalow Bridge, how stable it arrows through longer curves in an inclined position and is precisely ready to accelerate out again. So that nothing goes wrong, the F has a three-way adjustable traction control that can also be deactivated. It also works very well for its intended use on the street, which was nice to analyze in the Gooseneck-Rechts. Since it was dry, the early regulation level 1 made no sense. In stage two, however, the controls were already so quick that there was a momentary pause in transmission when the throttle was opened.

Brake should grab a little harder

Well, is the use of gas so delayed or is the TC already working? So next time on level 3 – and whoosh the rear wheel broke off a bit before the electronics caught it again. This TC should work perfectly for the road. The chassis was a good fit for the sometimes extremely bumpy roads, without being too soft and therefore unsportsmanlike to work. The fork is fully adjustable for different tastes – as with the naked one. For the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 F, the Japanese only adjusted the amount of fork oil. The shock absorber offers a rebound setting for preload.

When the show finally ends in Douglas after a few laps with Milky, we stand for a while with the likeable islander and philosophize about the bike. The sporty orientation of the F is really refreshing from a horsepower point of view. Anyone looking for a disguised motorcycle for the fast Sunday lap, but does not attach great importance to passengers or luggage, who does not want to be forced into the bent posture of a super sports car, but is not afraid of revs to really attack, but if you also need enough everyday suitability to get around town on your bike, you should take a look at the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 F..

Perhaps real sports enthusiasts will add a few euros and get thicker brake pads, because the brakes should grab a little harder. And unfortunately, the F also noticed the somewhat rough throttle response and the unsightly load changes of her naked sister while strolling around. But you can deal with that. In any case, the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 F fits perfectly on the island of road racers, because from the point of view of horsepower, the new one has become really sporty and fast.
