Suzuki Katana R Concept
Rumors of a sharper katana
Rumors are currently circulating in the Japanese media about a new, sharper variant of the Suzuki Katana. Expect an R variant soon?
GAccording to rumors, the shown Suzuki Katana R could be a limited special model. In terms of components, the concept bike shown here uses some components from the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 R. For example, the spring elements, the brakes and the electronics come from the Suzuki super sports car. The frame and the motor could come from the already known Katana. Thanks to the electronics update, a potential R variant could come with more power. For comparison: Suzuki gives the standard Katana almost 150 hp at 10,000 rpm for the nominal output.
Sitting position much sportier
If you look at the side profiles of the two bikes, you will notice that the seating position on the Concept-R is different than on the standard version. In the R variant, the clip-ons sit lower, which means that the seating position would be a bit more stooped and significantly sportier. In general, the R looks more aggressive than the "normal" Suzuki Katana.

For comparison: the standard version of the Katana from model year 2019.
Exhaust manufacturer Yoshimura is said to have been involved in the development of the concept, which is why a complete exhaust system from the Japanese appears to be installed in the drawing. The Yoshimura logo is clearly visible at least on the muffler. Otherwise, the concept shown here is only about ideas from our Japanese colleagues at youngmachine. Whether such a Suzuki Katana R will actually be implemented is in the stars. Perhaps we will learn more about Suzuki’s plans at this year’s EICMA in Milan.
