Trail, GT or urban, is designed in V-Strom at Suzuki. Under this name live two machines with very good performance, striking design and reference imprinted engines. The 650 plays to the rhythm of the SV twin, the 1000 pulses to the rumble of the TL block. Big memories for many.
Two motorcycles? Sorry, three now. To surprise a lively sector, that of the 250/300. Small, unique, massive, the 250 V-Strom surprises. After sports cars and roadsters, the small-displacement category, which the Asian markets love, now welcomes road trails. But what is this mini V-Smurf thinking about?.
There is nothing derogatory about this nickname, and it is now quite suitable for the smallest of Hamamatsu’s trails. Small in size but cunning in action.
In fact, there are a few brands: the incisive beak, the cyclops lighthouse and the all-road style. On the form …… Difficult to be objective with this large luminous block, which overflows like a wart. Design lines don’t run on the 250 V-Strom; they seem to stop, hesitate. The silhouette is much less airy than for the sisters. On the other hand, it gives an impression of robustness, as if the machine could cut down work in Australian mines. Fortunately, the design is more rewarding and qualitative than a former contender of hard work, the 125 DF-E.
Synergy requires, the V-Strom recovers many elements of the GSX-R 250. Starting with its engine. From the Inazuma 250, this twin cylinder announces 1 ACT, 4 valves, injection and liquid cooling. A power of 25 horses will allow him all the missions in town as well as some walks. As a duo and loaded, it will not be necessary to count on going very far. Especially with 188 kilos ready to roll, the machine is heavy; very heavy for a two and a half … The big V-Strom will be more suitable.
One of the strong points of this mechanism is autonomy. With its weak appetite and the 17 liters of tank capacity, Suzuki announces no less than 500 km with full tank. Figures that it agrees to put into perspective with driving in real conditions. But even there, the gauge shouldn’t go down very quickly.
It will be present on the dashboard along with the bargraph, the gear engaged, the speed, trips, clock, etc … Known instrumentation since it also works on the GSX-S 125, GSX-R 125 and 250. With filigree an inspiration of 1000 GSX-R.
For everyday life, the mini V-Strom is keen on showing practicality. To do this, a screen completes the front which is massive enough to provide protection. We carry a standard luggage rack to carry a load of 8.5 kilos, a 12V socket is installed to the left of the dashboard, and Suz has installed the fixings to hang the suitcases. A slight refinement that the 650 and 1000 V-Strom don’t even come with as standard.
No fuss for the chassis which will easily be satisfied with a steel frame, a conventional fork, a single shock absorber and 2 petal brake discs associated with an ABS. We can already imagine the desire to splash mud in front of the forest with a few machines of the same ilk. What do the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 and Benelli251 TRK think? ?
