The trail seems to confirm its big comeback. But these are no longer the days when simple and playful monos reigned supreme – today the adventurer is in the spotlight. Witness the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, Yamaha Super tenere, Guzzi Stelvio NTX and other KTMs. Suzuki, only present in the niche by its V-Strom 650, tries a foray with this more adventurous model: the V-Strom Xpedition.
Aprilia had already explored this solution with its Pegaso Tibet but Suzuki adopts a more road-ready pretension while having the flavor of adventure. There is already its engine, the excellent, lively and sparkling little V-twin that has never disappointed. Then it’s the gear that makes you want to leave with your Indiana Jones hat. A set of rigid aluminum suitcases in the purest Touratech style can carry 82 liters of cargo. Mixed profile tires agree to get off the road (not too much either, with 17-inch stick rims and 150 mm suspension travel ….) and the low-engine is protected by an aluminum shoe connected to a tubular structure itself attached to the frame. Here is what to protect the machine. For the pilot, hand guards; for safety, ABS is standard; to mechanize quietly, Suz adds a central stand. All this as standard.
Of course, we’ll have to get out a few more tickets to get it out of the dealership, plus shipping costs to get through the round, plus homologation in France, plus…. Ah, flute! I forgot to tell you again that this is a Suzuki England model. But who knows; given the enthusiasm for this type of machine for some time, maybe this Xpedition could shine further than in Brittany.
