Suzuki GSX 250 R 2020

Would you believe it if we told you that the battle will be fiercer among 300 sports cars than 600 Supersports?!? And yet, the reality is such today. With the GSX 250 R, the clan of small moths is growing even more. Each Japanese manufacturer now has its own little sports car: Kawasaki Ninja 400, Yamaha YZF-R3, Honda CBR 300 R (not imported) and now GSX 250 R. And that’s without counting the KTM RC 390, Benelli Tornado 302 and the hypothetical BMW S 310 RR. Meanwhile, the end has come for the 600 GSX-R, CBR 600 RR, ZX-6R and Daytona 675.
Has the fight moved? No times are changing.

The GSX 250 R responds to a strong demand, that of the Asian markets. Above all. But like its competitors, it may interest a recent and growing clientele: A2 license holders. Ease, compact size and measured power, these machines offer real assets for having fun without spending fortune and fear. The little Suzuki is in this vein. Its name alone is an invitation to sport. But one small thing to clarify. It is not exactly a GSX-R but a GSX 250 R. The subtlety of the names tells us that it is not quite a sport (GSX-R) but rather a sporty road. The Hayabusa plays on the same ambiguity, its name being GSX 1300 R and not GSX-R 1300.

Suzuki GSX 250 R 2020In short, there is a new sports machine at Suzuki. And rather pretty. She does not betray the house spirit and does everything to flatter the eye. Well streamlined, incisive, the Suz ‘wants to please and enhance both its size and its pilot. The rear lights and those of the front position are LED, the generous cockpit with its full LCD dashboard typed 1000 GSX-R, and the driving position promises to be more than correct with half-handlebars above the tee. low fork legs and footrests. Sport-GT, what! Too bad she does not recover the keyless start system of her little sister GSX-R 125.
But whether road or sport, a GSX ….. R must move forward. Suzuki implements a twin 248 cm3 in this machine, stitched to the ex-Inazuma 250 but revised. The cam profile is optimized for accelerations between 20 and 90 km / h, the speed range most used by users of this displacement according to the brand. New valves improve intake flow and new parts reduce friction losses. In the end, this block outputs 25 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 2.5 mkg at 6,500 rpm. Values in line with its cubic capacity but much lower than the guns of the segment that it comes to tickle. Competitors orbit around 40 horsepower. Especially since the GSX 250 R is heavy: 181 kilos on the scale. It confirms here its role closer to the road than to the sport.

On the technical and chassis side, like her friends, she calls on simple and proven solutions. For this segment and the level of performance, no need to use aluminum frame, magnesium or expensive materials that would not change much, except the price. Kayaba suspensions consist of a classic fork and a mono-shock absorber. Each wheel is fitted with a petal disc, the whole being assisted by an ABS. As for the frame, everyone will be satisfied with a double steel cradle..
The Suzuki GSX250R arrives not as a bloody conqueror but an affordable Sport-GT. It does not distinguish between technical and engine side to shake up the segment but its GSX-R design and its pricing policy should be more appealing.
