Having a good, fun, versatile motorcycle with an exciting engine is no longer enough. Personality and / or a certain level of preparation are in tune with the times. Ducati demonstrates it very well with its Scrambler available in all sauces.. For the OAS, it’s the same. Eager to give a little boost to his career, Suzuki offers it in special series, in line with the trend. After the Scrambler edition, which only has the name and not really the function, the roadster goes through the Cafe Racer box. An accent of urban competition that we hear everywhere for some time. But how does Suzette do in the exercise ?!?
Last year, a customization contest crowned the Kikishop workshop for its Cafe Racer interpretation of the SV. We thought then that Suz was going to be inspired by it to praise a new vintage typed SV-S, with its old-style fork crown, the single-seater saddle and the pot that goes well….
Lost ! The Cafe Racer series that the manufacturer offers us is much less impactful than the Kikishop creation. And clearly lacking in impetuosity. Certainly, there are some codes of the genre, with semi-quidons and remote footrest plates, resulting in a driving position (a little) more sporty, as well as an exhaust which releases the musicality of the twin. But … the spirit, the arsouille side of Saturday evening, the desire to do battle is not there. The eye interprets more of a pre-tuning than a real CR, where spoked rims, real straps placed low, a sport rear would be of good quality … In short, can this accessorized SV justify this title ?
The 100 buyers will be the only real judges, because this SV 650 Cafe Racer will only be produced with this number of copies. Each model is equipped with a whole series of parts from Gilles Tooling, namely the half-handlebars, the rear controls, the driver and passenger footrests, the protective pads attached to the frame, the radiator scoops, the steering nut and the bar ends. This SV also nods to racing with its number plates. As for the special double-ended exhaust, which one would think stung from a NineT, it would go perfectly on a Scrambler; we remain more dubious about his presence here.
This limited series of SV is offered at a price revised to the next notch. At 7999 euros, the requested extension is 1300 euros compared to the standard SV. The price of style. The dynamics are beyond these considerations, with a twin always pleasant and endowed with 76 horses, a neutral, simple, efficient and proven chassis, and the transience inherent in Miss Suzette..
