Two values say more than 1000 words: 137 kilograms with a full tank and 70 hp peak power. These key data are enough to give the euphoria about the successful optics the technical addition: the Aprilia SXV 550 ?? for Supermoto fans who love the extreme and the unusual. After all, the men from Noale, Italy, have declared the unconventional as a concept. The composite frame made of tubular mesh and cast aluminum parts as well as the 77-degree V2 engine with gasoline injection and Unicam valve control stand out spectacularly from anything that has ever been seen in the Supermoto area.
The data won’t get out of your head: 137 kilos and 70 hp! Plus this ultra-slim design. A clear case for the country road. First the pressure on the electric starter. The SXV keeps dying. The small button on the throttle, which raises the idle for a cold start, only partially does its job. Only when the right hand turns the throttle a tick further does the two-cylinder chug away. Even later, when it is hot, the V2 usually does not come straight away. Still, departure. The two-cylinder pushes hard, pushes at 3000 rpm and only lets go when the rev limiter intervenes at 11500 rpm.
The little engine hangs lively on the accelerator and is very easy to keep in the ideal speed range between 7000 and 9000 revs thanks to the short, tightly stepped five-speed gearbox. Brake, downshift two gears, bend? The flyweight exudes a supermoto feeling in pure essence, feels in its element on winding streets. However, the fun slows down the not quite successful mapping of the engine management in the lower speed range. The abrupt onset of the two-cylinder hailed many a targeted line in tight bends. To which the unusually wide 180 mm rear tire also plays its part, which, in contrast to the 160 mm tires common in the supermoto industry, creates a noticeable tendency to pitch up when braking.
The comfortably tuned suspension is also designed for bumpy country roads. No effect without side effects: violent braking maneuvers leave the upside-down fork ?? Incidentally, a first work by the Italian manufacturer Sachs ?? far
immerse. But even if it gets faster, the SXV driver can still keep up. According to the speedometer it is running A.prilia 192 km / h, which corresponds to a real 177 km / h. And still runs straight ahead. Not that long, though. With a test consumption equal to the tank volume of 7.5 liters, the Italian really dares to stop at the gas station.
And otherwise? Brakes: A single finger is all it takes to combine a stylish wave brake disc and a radially bolted brake caliper from FTE. Clutch: The pressure point could be more clearly defined. Sitting position: a proud 90 centimeters disturb everyone below the height of the guard. And the thickly padded, but racing-sporty narrow bench seat is only comfortable for the first hour. So a bike for the racetrack after all?
From a legal point of view, yes. From the full power ?? which is still achieved with the series exhaust, which is quite acceptable in terms of volume? there are only 20 left in the approved version. Another extreme. pm
