Cult bike: Kawasaki Z 750 Turbo
The last of its kind
Unmanageable performance, low durability, high consumption? Motorcycles with turbochargers are still under general suspicion. Kawasaki’s 750cc showed in 1983 that everything can be done differently.
Kawasaki Z 750 Turbo
It was the last of its kind and is still considered mature today! After the Honda CX 500/650 Turbo, Suzuki XN 85 and Yamaha XJ 650 Turbo, Kawasaki offered the Z 750 Turbo finally the balanced engine combination with charger technology. While the competition had to struggle with endless performance gaps below the speed range in which the turbine wheel pumps an extra portion of fuel-air mixture into the combustion chambers, the Kawa engineers came up with a fine compromise at the time: the classically ventilated 738 cubic centimeters are sufficient for up to around 5000 revolutions a satisfactory boost.
Cult bike: Kawasaki Z 750 Turbo
The last of its kind
1983 Kawasaki the cheapest of the turbocharged specimens, but anything but a bargain. The fuel consumption of around six liters, which is acceptable in practice, could not make up for this either. Loyal owners swear by their fundamental reliability with careful care and maintenance. It is a shame that it is difficult to find as a used vehicle in its original condition.

Market situation
According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, 246 copies were still registered in Germany in 2011. Roughly the same number is assumed to be de-registered collector’s items. The supply density of the Turbo-Kawa in the original condition is very poor and speaks for the character of the Z as well as for its loyal owners. You should calculate around 2500 euros for a well-preserved motorcycle. Very fine copies can also cost up to 4000 euros.
