Driving report Honda VFR 1200 DCT: V4 with two clutches

First of all, the VFR 1200 is a progressively styled sports tourer – equipped with a completely newly developed generation of the Honda already legendary, slender V4 engine. The very compact dual-clutch transmission widens it only insignificantly. The ten kilos more could serve as a counter-argument. However, since they are very low in weight, they hardly bother you when driving – especially since the VFR is no lightweight at 277 kilos anyway.
Her domain is speedy tours on country roads with wide curves, which she rushes through neutrally. The driver sits sportily enough to be able to easily direct the machine, but also sufficiently relaxed for the journey lasting several hours.

Small weaknesses, fair surcharge

Honda takes 1300 euros extra for the DCT, the machine then costs a total of 16,200 euros – including ABS. Another extra that bikers eyed suspiciously at first. The following applies to both: once you’ve tried it, you won’t want to be without it again.

  1. too dangerous
and what if the automatic shifter goes haywire or gets misconnected? A single-track vehicle with … the performance does not waste any driving or. switching error. At the car I have already experienced automatic shift errors, that’s just unpleasant, the motorcycle would be too dangerous to me.

  2. In America
where it is mostly straight ahead, this may still make sense. The inclined European will probably ignore this bike, riding fun is different.

  3. That’s the only thing against electric bikes
speaks (from my point of view – I think it’s ok with the car – traffic jams/etc.). But shifting gears is part of motorcycling.

  4. For 16200 euros
I get a nice motorbike with gears and if I want a scooter too.

  5. for me…
shifting gears is what makes motorcycling so much fun and you wouldn’t want to do without it. In any case, an automatic motorcycle is out of the question for me.

  6. Motorcycling
Power the motorcycle with electric starter instead of kickstarter, no longer feel the wind because of the paneling and full exercise helmet, do not pull a clutch handle, do not operate any shift levers and soon drive without sound thanks to electric motors… No thanks – I’d rather stick to mine "Antique car" with which you can still experience all this.
