Tourist Trophy 2018: Harrison and Dunlop at the top on the "small" motorcycles
The second Supersport race and the Lightweight event of the TT 2018 were respectively won yesterday by a decidedly very strong Dean Harrison this year and a Michael Dunlop who recorded his … 18th TT success !
TT 2018: second Supersport race (4 laps)
Deprived on Saturday of – his great chances of winning the – Superbike victory due to a mechanical problem but author of the ab-so-read record for the round of the Isle of Man, Dean Harrison came second in Supersport on Monday and third in Superstock.
"Good results, but could do better," commented the editorial staff of Site, still severe but fair. And the Kawasaki rider n ° 5 took advantage of the third day of competition of the 99th Tourist Trophy (yesterday, Wednesday) to progress, precisely.
As in the three previous races, Harrison impresses by immersing himself instantly in the rhythm: fifth machine to leave the starting line – as a reminder, motorcycles start every 10 seconds at the Tourist Trophy -, the ZX-6R completes its first lap of the "Snafell Moutain Course" at an average of 128.188 mph (206 km / h) !
And as on these same three races, Michael Dunlop and Peter Hickman temporarily settle on the podium: the n ° 6 Honda and the n ° 10 Triumph are 4 small seconds behind the Kawasaki n ° 5 and are not separated between them. only by 2 tenths of a second !
Harrison continued to attack and completed a second lap at 129.099 mph, just one tenth off the record set in the first run by Dunlop "Himself". The latter does not maintain the pace and enters the pits 18.3 seconds after Harrison (8.3 seconds behind in the clock therefore).
Unfortunately for "MD", his delay increases by 30 seconds at the exit of the pits, where he is "flashed" at 60.2 km / h instead of 60 … The northern Irishman loses all hope of winning there the race and will let go of big points permit in the general classification !
Dean is then 18.3 seconds ahead of his closest opponent, Peter Hickman, who now fights against James Hillier with strokes of tenths of a second, sector after sector. Manx Connor Cummins is in fourth place ahead of Dunlop.
At the head of the race, Harrison is not content to manage and on the contrary continues to attack like a bugger! Admittedly, the gap which separates him from his pursuer does not vary during the 3rd and 4th laps, but his average over the whole race (126.703 mph, 202.7 km / h) represents a new record! CQFD.
Four years after his first victory in the Lightweight category (650 cc twin-cylinder), Dean Harrison has finally returned to well-deserved success. Peter Hickman takes his third podium of the week, James Hillier the second. Michael Dunlop had to settle for fifth behind Cummins, but he still largely leads the "Joey Dunlop Championship" with 81 points, against 61 for Hickman and Harrison. !
Dean Harrison, winner : "I went headlong from the start, I took a little lead and I continued to attack. I’m in heaven. All this week we have been trying, trying, and trying again … and now all our hard work has paid off ".

TT 2018: Lightweight race (4 laps)
Far from the jockey size (1.80 m for 80 kg!), Michael Dunlop nevertheless won his fight in the "Lightweight" category. Undoubtedly upset by his – relative – failure in the second Supersport round, the professional driver and amateur boxer struck a big blow…
Ivan Lintin, winner of the event in 2015 and 2016, starts like a cannonball: 121.603 mph, a new record from the first lap, standing start! From the 2nd loop, Michael Dunlop erases the name of his competitor from the tablets by traveling around the Isle of Man at an average 122.257 mph (196.3 km / h).
Lintin is trying to hang on … or rather stay far ahead of Dunlop on the road! Unfortunately for him, his Kawasaki engine (Akashi’s Twin equips the overwhelming majority of the field) died shortly after refueling at halfway….
Rid of his main rival, Michael Dunlop did not win the race, quite the contrary: Derek McGee did not drag in the pits and came out ahead of the race! The KMR Kawasaki team rider harasses Dunlop – against the clock – throughout the 3rd lap: less than 2 seconds separate them at the start of the 4th !
Michael Dunlop must take out the big attack in order to secure an 18th victory in the Tourist Trophy: at the controls of his Paton S1-R, the n ° 6 of the Tourist Trophy 2018 breaks his own lap record (122,750 mph) and wins finally with nearly 15 seconds ahead of Ivan Lintin and his Kawasaki prepared by ex-driver Ryan Farquhar.
We also salute Paton’s magnificent group shot: in addition to the victory of his official rider, can boast of placing four other motorcycles in the first six places of this 2018 Lightweight race. Enough to fill in the workshop order forms? Case to follow.
