Moto Guzzi V85 TT test: the dolce vita of the trail !
Change in continuity. Taking up the famous adage without quoting it, Moto Guzzi reinvests the classic and versatile trail niche with this V85 TT. Forced to update its motorcycles without denying its past, the Italian firm offers a motorcycle with character, modernized and affordable. Success announced? MNC test.

Look great. Openly styled off-road, the V85 TT is inspired by the NTX 750 and Quota 1000 with the hints of African rallying … Models that have not, however, left lasting memories! The novelty gives itself more means to succeed, starting with its delicious lines. |
Comfort. Compact, the V85 TT allows good freedom of movement. The passenger is not forgotten with a flat saddle and tubes to hold onto. The protection provided by a smoke screen is limited. A higher element, perfectly protecting the helmet, is available as an accessory. |
From the reserve. Under the nicely indented covers at the cylinder heads hides an injected plastic tank containing 23 liters of fuel. MNC recorded 5.1 l / 100 km on the instrument panel during this test, i.e. a theoretical range of more than 400 km. |
All Terrain. Listed in the off-road chapter, the raised silencer, the aluminum belly pan, the fork tube guards and the standard hand guards are very useful for off-road excursions ! |
Accessible. The 830mm saddle allows riders around 1.75m to put both feet on the ground to master low-speed maneuvers. Too bad it cannot be adjusted in several positions … The 229 kg in running order remain acceptable for the category. |
Cardan, signor ! The V85 TT is the only “medium” displacement trail runner to use the final drive shaft and universal joints, more practical and less messy than a chain. In action, this gimbal generates little "lift" effect during acceleration and gas cuts.. |
A luminous eagle. In line with Moto Guzzi history, the V85 TT is equipped with a raised front fender and a double headlight whose LED daytime running light draws an eagle with unfolded wings (the Moto Guzzi logo). |
Good frame. On the tubular steel frame without lower cradle are fixed the cast aluminum plates which support the pilot footrests, fitted with removable rubbers. Rational, anchoring the engine to the frame ensures rigidity and accessibility. |
Pinch me, I’m dreaming ! Excellent and even brutal when pulled hard, the front brake features 320mm steel discs and 4-piston Brembo radial-mount calipers, all handled by Continental ABS. The latter can be deactivated on the rear by choosing the appropriate mode. |
Separate room. The diameter of the front and rear wheels is 19 ” and 17 ”, suitable for moderate off-roading. On the other hand, the rims are not tangential spokes and therefore have inner tubes: "to limit their total cost", explains Guzzi. |
Engine. As on all Guzzi Motorcycles, the transverse V-Twin is open at 90 °. It is air-oil cooled and its distribution passes through rods / rocker arms and two valves per cylinder. The intake ones are titanium, please! With a crankshaft "30%" lighter than the V9s, this 853 cc (84 x 77 mm) block is the most modern of the range. |
Motor bis. With a ratio of nearly 100 hp / liter, this engine develops 80 hp. Its 80 Nm of torque are available at 5,000 rpm. "90%" of this torque would be present from 3,750 rpm, a speed where the motorcycle effectively sets off with vigor. The twin can reach 8000 rpm, but its red zone is fixed – as a precaution? – at 6,900 rpm. Semi-dry sump lubrication system uses two oil pumps, but no radiator. |
Regulated. The V85 TT incorporates a cruise control that can be controlled with a single button on the left to activate it, increase or decrease the selected speed and disengage it. |
Instrumentation. The color TFT screen reveals three driving modes: Road, Rain and Off-road. Each offers a different calibration of ABS, Traction Control and Ride-by-Wire. The background and the color of the characters adapt to the brightness. The speed, rpm, mileage, gear engaged, air temperature, fuel level, average and instantaneous consumption and remaining range are clearly indicated.. A USB port is integrated on the left of the dashboard, while a pre-cabling for a second USB port is provided under the seat. As an option, Moto Guzzi offers a multi-media platform that allows you to connect a smartphone. |
