Test Yamaha XTZ 1200 Super Tenere: the smooth traveler !
It has long been desired but here it is finally, this new Super Tenere 1200 XTZ! Site has tested it for you on more than 1000 km of roads and tracks of all kinds between Madrid and Lisbon. Ready for the great adventure ? First test !
Ready for discovery ?
We already knew the main lines (read), but the concrete presentation of the new Yamaha XTZ 1200 Super Tenere has just taken place during the "Ride for life" trip (more info on this operation in a few moments).
Site therefore tried out this long-awaited Yamaha Super T 1200 XTZ between Madrid and Lisbon, in the company of multiple Dakar winner Stephane Peterhansel himself … More than 1000 road markers of all formats, of all types, with even a few small parts of earthy and stony tracks: a hell of a program to gauge the versatility of the machine !
Starting from a blank sheet, this bike was designed with precise specifications: real versatility, not favoring "all-terrain" ability to the detriment of on-road stability, maximum ease of use, comfort optimum and reliability.
The all new 1199 cc cube engine with 270 ° timing. "It is an ideal configuration for ideal engine behavior in rally-raid", estimates Stephane Peterhansel. It adopts advanced technology: traction management by the Traction Control system, choice of two different maps for a more or less smooth engine behavior, coupling of the front and rear braking systems (UBS for Unifed Braking System and ABS).
The weight distribution has also been studied to lower the center of gravity and allow great maneuverability. So many theoretical promises that we can not wait to concretely verify the
At first glance, the beast seems less imposing than in the photos and the iconic "Tenere" design already makes you want to ride far, just like the side cases that equip the "First Edition" of the XTZ 1200 (the Super T will be sold in this configuration in limited numbers during the first year of marketing). In short, all the ingredients are there to encourage travel !
Visually, in addition to the observation of a beautiful finish, there are elements of invitation to travel such as the saddle which by its shape asks only to be occupied. The saddle is easily adjustable in height (between 845 and 870mm): simply unlock the seat using a side lock then move the plastic support up a notch.
The ship’s cockpit is functional, despite all the possible programming combinations: a small button on the left side allows you to select the degree of Traction Control involvement: TCS1 to avoid skidding as much as possible, TCS2 to tolerate a slight slip or TCS "Off" to completely deactivate the system.
You can also choose between Touring or Sport mode, with a simple press of the switch on the right grip, which changes the mapping and makes the engine behavior more or less lively..
On the aesthetic side, although contrasted with the general line of the motorcycle, the side cases go very well with the "long range" spirit of the machine. Of course, it is not forbidden to skip their usefulness and remove them to give a more "racing" air to the XTZ 1200, with its bare rear part and thus refined..
