A powerful row twin in an extremely agile chassis – that will soon be coming from KTM. But that already existed with the Husqvarna Nuda 900 – now refined by Triplespeed.

KTM presented the new 790 Duke at EICMA 2017. Curiously, there was a motorcycle like this not long ago from a company that is now part of KTM. In 2011, still under the direction of BMW, Husqvarna built the Nuda 900 for a short time. The engine, which was suspended in a tubular space frame, had 898 cubic meters, was a parallel twin with a crank pin offset and developed 105 hp. The Nuda weighed 195 kilos with a full tank. Only: The basis was the BMW engine of the F 800 series and after the purchase of Husqvarna by KTM it was impossible that the Husqvarna Nuda could be built with this engine. So with its completely redeveloped 790 Duke, KTM is filling the gap in the market that it practically tore open itself.

Nuda 900 made to turn the cool country road wedger into an even cooler projectile. The triple speeders have attached a Remus Hypercone slip-on to the BMW base engine, which Husqvarna has already increased by 100 cubic meters for the Nuda through a significantly longer stroke and made it sexy with the crank pin offset and tuned the whole thing using the Dynojet Power Commander V with the Autotune kit. So that the twin gets plenty of air, it sniffs its oxygen through a K.&N-Racing air filter. In order to bring the six-year-old motorcycle into the present, the transmission now shifts via Quickshifter, also from Dynojet. Despite these manageable measures, one can imagine how much fun the two-cylinder is.

Single piece for 28,000 euros

The Husqvarna Nuda already has a thick 48-inch fork as its base model, but it is not adjustable. With the Mupo cartridge kit called LcRr, it is now just as fully adjustable as the higher quality Sachs fork on the Nuda R. At the rear, the Parox received the fully adjustable GT1 shock absorber from Mupo in Italy.

Technically, the Magura HC1 Black Edition brake and clutch pumps stand out, the latter with hydraulic kit. But the triple-speed guys are aesthetes with a weakness for black. Much of it comes from Rizoma, like the handlebars. And because the devilish appearance in black tolerates red counterpoints particularly well, the spectacular Motogadget cockpit shines accordingly. The buttons for lights, etc. under the carbon cover of the tank are also backlit in red. With this and much more, a beast was created for 28,000 euros.

The KTM 790 Duke will cost significantly less than the Nuda back then – but it won’t be a one-off like the Parox, that’s for sure.
