The Thunderbird looks like it came out of a photo album of our parents’ youth. A crazy charm emerges, a subtle reminder of the great era of English brands. This clever resurrection does not prevent the Thunderbird from welcoming an engine closer to our history, but from a previous generation to the current Triumph blocks. Let us recall in passing that the Thunderbird S is making a reappearance here because it had been excluded from the manufacturer’s catalog 2 years ago. Once underway, the 3 cylinder 885 cc calmly announces a “so British” character – the typical 4-legged purr changes melody when the handle is teased a little. Big and relatively heavy, the English, however, offers a driving position that facilitates handling. So much the better because, even if the handling is good, the liveliness is not the strong point of the Triumph. After this overweight, you can enjoy the nice typical mill. Without really reconciling the advantages of the 2 master architectures (4 and 2 cylinders), it mostly eliminates their shortcomings: it offers smoothness and linearity at very low speeds while offering a nice torque effect at mid-speed. The good health of the engine allows you to have fun as long as the asphalt is conciliatory, with a little work to make the machine spin correctly. Once the coating gets angry, the bike does not laugh at all: we are shaken in all directions and the machine struggles to hold the floor. Quick, slow down and endure the dryness of the suspension. Too bad, its forms and its generous engine shake up the senses, but its behavior is not rigorous enough to claim English nobility.
