Test: Triumph Speed Triple R: The Fine Difference
If the British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph a model a little replenish, it receives the additional name "R". So now also happens at the Speed Triple. What the 135-hp drilling can.
The more sportable version is above all on the red lacquered rear frame as well as the gold front fork of the Swedish chassis specialist Ohlins. Of course, what you do not like immediately, but does not make yourself noticeable when handling, subtleties like the TTX strut, also of Ohlins, Brembo brakes and lightweight PVM shrubs, which reduce the unsprung masses. There are still some nice to look at Karbonteile. As standard, the R version also has an ABS system that costs at the normal Speed Triple 600 Euro surcharge. If one expects that, remains with a price of 14 990 euros a surcharge of almost 3000 euros for the fine parts. Is it worth it?
So finished and the few hot days of the year used. Beforebe a look at the tires: Triumph relies on the racetrack Pirelli Supercorsa SP, which therefore can guide where the path of a Speed Triple R can lead to the R. First, you have to get used to the pretty high seating position and the wide building tank, then go.
Supple and powerful drilling
The triple spoils already at the first meters with willy gas acceptance and research propulsion; Without power hole, the three-cylinder rotates evenly up to 10 000 revolutions, providing 7750 tours its maximum torque of 111 Newton meters. Especially from the speed cellar he draws powerfully, which brings mainly after narrow curves meters. He does not run as a silk soft as a four-, but not so rough as a two-cylinder and remains acoustically right during the speed of rotation. Which, of course, first at the series digestionpells, but also because that of the Street Triple-known whistles and organs from the airbox is eliminated. But fans of a stronger sound are quickly found in the triumph retrofit range and can order Arrow pots for around 1300 euros.
If necessary, first-class four-piston brembs are counteracted as needed, which are well-dosed and extractively intervene with stronger train. The first curve is thus approached, and then the R plays your trumps: The finely appealing suspension delivers noticeably better feedback from the front and rear wheel and also creates a lot of confidence in the bike in slacks. In addition, it increases the handiness and the fun factor in total in cooperation with the short wheelbase. Which, of course, only restricted on bumpy routes and short strokes on the highway, because this is almost unfiltered to the driver.
Otherwise, the R hardly differs from the normal version: The seating position is relaxed upright, which does not make very comfortable because of the lack of windbreaking highway rides; Socia also sit very comfortably because of the short bank. The revised transmission turns off crisp and exactly, the fittings can be read well – but there is a lack of gang display, but there is a tanker. The consumption commuted at 5.9 liters to 100 kilometers.
Conclusion: The comparison of the two bikes and their suspensions shows that at motorcycle purchase maybe a little less on PS than a good chassis – and above all the correct setting on the driver weight – should pay attention to. We consider the surcharge for the R-version accordingly for well-laid money.
