Triumph Street Twin 2019

Triumph Street Twin (2019) in the driving report

10 HP more power are clearly noticeable

10 HP more power bring the Triumph Street Twin to 65 HP for the 2019 model year. There are also two driving modes, three color variations, as well as fresh accessories and two new inspiration kits. We have already driven it.

D.he Street Twin is the best-selling model in Triumph’s Modern Classic range. Your liquid-cooled 900 cm³ parallel twin now provides 65 HP. That is 10 HP more than before. Interested parties should be extremely pleased, because even if the concept of the Street Twin was not designed for maximum performance from the start, the 55 hp did not always seem sufficient, as MOTORRAD noted in the driving report (MOTORRAD 1/2016): “ When pulling through and cornering -Swing is already germinating the desire for more performance. Not because more horsepower is always better, but because more power also makes you confident. The Triumph Street Twin loses this sovereignty as soon as you move beyond the maximum torque and power. "

The increase in performance was obviously achieved through a higher speed level. Overall, the Triumph Street Twin turns 500 rpm higher from model year 2019, so it only goes into the limiter at 7,500 rpm. The maximum torque is still 80 Nm, but is no longer at 3,200 rpm, but only at 3,800 rpm. In the 2016 driving report, the author wrote: "Turning it all the way down to the limiter does not help, as the performance zenith of 55 hp is already at 5,900 rpm." The technical data of the new Triumph Street Twin say that the 65 PS can only be called up at 7,500 rpm.

The new engine got camshaft covers made of magnesium, a lighter crankshaft and balance shaft as well as clutch covers and an equally lighter clutch. The dry weight indicates Triumph with 198 kilograms.

More pressure and better brakes

The new twin pushes harder, the new brakes bite harder.

The thrust of the strengthened engine from the very bottom out of the tight corners is actually considerable. That is to say: 65 HP served so brawnily are sufficient. Up to third gear, the speed can easily drop below 2,000 revs, and the twin still runs absolutely smoothly. The revving has also increased significantly. When it comes to sound, the twin is still great – full, low-frequency, muffled. And the new Rain mode with the gentler throttle response and more sensitive traction control ensures a good feeling.

The newly tuned fork fulfills its management tasks significantly better than before. It responds well, is comfortable and yet properly muffled. The driver is happy to note the significantly better four-piston fixed calipers from Brembo, which are always up to the extra power. The seating comfort on the new bench has improved noticeably, although the seating position on the Street Twin may seem a tad too compact.
