Roadster enthusiasts readily cite the Speed Triple when selecting a machine with character. It’s undeniable: the machine really looks good, and all the elements of the Daytona to offer a lot of driving pleasure. Exhilarated by this success, Triumph uses the same recipe to create a new bubbling roadster: the Speed Four.
Basically, a TT 600 which loses its fairing and gains a new electronic management. With its exposed mechanics, its flash colors, its forced air inlets and its unique double optics, the little brute does everything to be noticed. This is essential in this hotly contested segment. To cut croupiers to Suzuki SV 650, Yamaha Fazer and other Honda 600 Hornets, it is better to prepare your weapons.
The tempting aesthetic, the engine seduces. Reworked to offer more mid-range gniak, the TT’s block is much more pleasant in this new setting. Demonstrative, with an extension of super sports car and much more filled than that of the pistarde, the English 4-cylinder makes it possible to take the machine seriously. The exacerbating low-speed engine hollow of the 600 TT has finally fallen by the wayside. Lacking on the first generation of English supersport, this mill has become usable over a wide rev range: from 6500 rpm to the red zone.
To serve this potential, the chassis offers what it takes. With a chassis identical to the TT and a featherweight of 170 kgs, the bike is both efficient and safe. Very stable, the road behavior of the Speed Four does not sulfur any criticism. The braking does not lack power but a hint of progressiveness. As for the pilot, he will have to deal with a sport position induced by the height of the footrests and the location of the half-handlebars. Nothing prohibitive especially as a flat handlebar is available as an option. The equipment is worthy of a sportswoman but the finish must improve.
Hinckley’s little moth is certainly not cheap, it is landing in a market largely dominated by more affordable roadsters, but its nasty design and boiling performance are sure to make your head spin..
