Ural cT Elektrogespann – trailer prototype with electric drive

Ural cT electric team

Team prototype with electric drive

The Russian motorcycle manufacturer Ural is heading into the future. Together with Zero, the prototype of a purely electrically powered team has now been presented.

Ural sidecars have always been combined with a boxer engine. That’s how you know it. Now, however, new times seem to be dawning here too. In collaboration with the electric motorcycle builders at Zero Ural built the purely electrically powered Ural cT combination – so far only as a prototype. It will be shown for the first time at the Long Beach Motorcycle Show in mid-November.

Up to 165 km range

The boxer engine is replaced by a 45 kW and 10 Nm electric motor. Instead of fuel, the team bunkers 19.5 kWh of electricity in its two battery packs. This should enable real ranges of up to 165 kilometers if you keep a walking pace of almost 100 km / h. The electric heart accelerates the dry 373 kilogram team to 140 km / h. All electric drive components come from Zero.

Series production possible

The energy stores are recharged via an onboard charger. On a 115 volt network (USA), the charging time should be a good 13 hours. The charging socket was installed in the former filler neck. Only the rear wheel of the motorcycle is driven. The sidecar wheel only runs along. There is no gearbox or clutch. Advantageous for trailer operation: the electric drive significantly lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity.

First of all, the prototype will test customer interest in a purely electrically powered Ural. If there is sufficient positive feedback, further series development should take another two years.
