MNC analysis of World Superbike in Great Britain
Beyond the points distributed, each race weekend brings its share of remarkable feats and poor performances, good and bad surprises. In its analysis, Site reviews the highlights of the WSBK at Donington Park.
The battle of the constructors WSBK 2016
While Jonathan Rea signed a less astounding than in (read the previous page), Kawasaki this year almost equaled its record results of last year: at the end of the first seven tests, the counter of the firm of Akashi displays 321 points.
At this stage of the competition last year, the Greens totaled 340 points … out of 350, victory having escaped them only twice. This year, they have nine wins, four second places and a third, which allow them to clearly dominate the championship..
However, with two braces from Davies to then to, the Bologna Reds are "only" two wins behind their great rivals (53 points less than Kawa), while they were 108 points behind. same period last year.
For their third year in the factory team, Davies and Giugliano are showing both better performance and more consistency. As with Kawasaki, the Ducati factory riders brought all the points to their manufacturers. Apart from Fores, very fast in Aragon, the private pilots have little chance of making their contribution….
The has nonetheless proved that the World Superbike is more open than it seems at the simple sight of the classification of the manufacturers, since the seven marks registered this season were in the "Top Ten". !
Just two seconds behind Chaz Davies was Lorenzo Savadori on his Aprilia. Engaged in, Noale’s mark has significantly reduced his efforts in WorldSBK, but that does not prevent “his” STK1000 champion from riding hard !
This weekend, the n ° 32 rookie started for the first time from the first row of the Superbike grid. then in the race, "Sava" showed remarkable restraint: the young man is only 23 years old, but he already knows when to attack and when to ensure. Impressive !
On his own, of course, Lorenzo cannot secure the same number of points as “good old” Haslam and “good young” Torres fielded by Aprilia last year. The manufacturer and his driver share the same number of points: 103, six more than MV Agusta…
Red lantern of the classification, the small factory of Varese and its only pilot (Leon Camier) total 97 points. They are therefore in a much better position than last year since the same duo had only gleaned 40 points in seven events in 2015..
In the only test of Donington 2016, MV Agusta is even on the constructors’ podium with 24 points scored! But these points are not only important from a sporting point of view: plagued by, the brand is currently trying to attract the attention – and capital – of new investors (read our).
Under his pilot-tester-developer leather, the English n ° 2 also wears a VRP costume every race weekend. His next meeting will be one of the most important of his 2016 tour: Misano, the last event to take place on Italian soil following …
Fourth in the standings in mid-season 2015, Honda has gained a place this year. Thanks to their new recruit Nicky Hayden – and the Malay monsoon! -, the Tokyo giant managed to steal a victory from the two champions of the championship.
Winner in the wet at, the "Kentucky Kid" the "Kentucky Legend" is still one tone below in the dry. The seems however more and more at ease on his Fireblade and on the Pirelli. He goes back to his teammate Van den Mark…
Will the healthy competition between the two Fireblade drivers allow Honda to keep its place on the podium overall? The winged brand has so far totaled 188 points, benefiting both from the honorable results of Nicky and Michael on the old CBR (six podiums including one victory) and the poor performance of its pursuers…
In better shape than last year (127 points against 73), BMW had a difficult weekend in England, after which its score increased by only 16 points: 9 obtained by Jordi Torres in the first round and 7 by Josh Brookes in second.
On paper, however, the German contingent looks great! At Althea, German champion Reiterberger teams up with 2015 WSBK best rookie Torres, while English team Milwaukee arrives with British Superbike champion Brookes and former Grand Prix rider Karel Abraham…
The transplant of Magneti Marelli electronic boxes – common to all the machines of the World SBK since this year – would it give a hard time to the "Behème" teams and their prestigious pilots? At Milwaukee, it’s a new swingarm that seems to have pleased the "Bad Boy" Brookes. Case to follow…
Finally, Yamaha has a ready-made excuse to explain its distant and disappointing fifth place: a crash on its riders, both in Superbike and Superstock. In England, Alex Lowes was the only holder to appear on the track on Friday … but he was sidelined !
Considering that the n ° 22 was too handicapped by his broken collarbone in Sepang, the medical team stopped him dead after a promising first day: Lowes was in fourth place on the timesheet, three tenths of a second behind Giugliano and seven small tenths of Sykes and Rea.
Alex therefore joined our dear Sylvain Guintoli on the sidelines and followed with him the developments of his replacement this weekend: Cameron Beaubier. After an aborted first race in WSBK – fall at the end of the first lap -, the American n ° 6 (United States n ° 1) achieved a much more convincing second..
"I kept telling whoever wants to hear it that Cameron Beaubier was good", tweeted Ben Spies himself on Twitter."Top 10 on a motorcycle, tires and a circuit he did not know. I hope someone has a pen on them…", to sign the next American Superbike World Champion? Nicky Hayden is already on the move in 2017 with a new Fireblade. But who knows…
