Michael van den Mark took advantage of the second Superbike event in Thailand to take his very first pole position! The young and talented Honda rider n ° 60 largely dominates his "big" comrades…
Joined the World Superbike last year alongside "our" world champion Sylvain Guintoli, Michael Van den Mark is already on five SBK podiums. His last two were climbed two weeks ago, during the opening of the 2016 championship in Australia..
Extremely promising, "Magic Michael" added a line to his record this morning at Buriram, on a circuit that is more demanding than Phillip Island in terms of mechanics. He has just won the first Superpole of his young career, crowned in 2014 with a World Supersport title on CBR600RR.
Faithful to Honda, VDM proves that the Fireblade is not – always! – not out of the race, or "Out of qualifying" at least, since the n ° 60 of the Ten Kate team beats by two tenths of a second the two champions Kawasaki, Rea and Sykes, authors of the same time.
Credited with the best time in SP2 before his opponents complete their final lap, Chaz Davies secures the lead in second place while his teammate Davide Giugliano occupies the tail. Between the two official Panigales (Ducati Aruba.it) is Sylvain Guintoli and his factory Yamaha (Yamaha Crescent Pata).
Victim of a technical problem on the second official R1, Alex Lowes did not have the opportunity to turn with the qualifying tire ‘and found himself relegated to seventh position on the grid. On the race tire, however, the n ° 22 held the third fastest time behind Guintoli and Van den Mark, ahead of Giugliano, Rea and Sykes…
Eclipsed by his young teammate, Nicky Hayden only obtained the eighth fastest time in SP2, almost a second behind the "Dutchman" poleman. The famous n ° 69 will accompany Lowes in the third row, completed by the rookie and German champion, Markus Reiterberger (BMW Althea).
In the fourth row will start the rookie of the year 2015 Jordi Torres. The second BMW Althea driver will post his S1000RR in front of Karel Abraham’s prepared by BMW Milwaukee. Matteo Baiocco, Fabio Menghi’s replacement in the Ducati VFT Racing completes the Top 12 of SP2.
Beaten by the same Baiocco at the very end of SP1, Josh Brookes had to be content with 13th place on the starting grid. The second driver of the BMW Milwaukee team will install his S1000RR in front of the factory MV Agusta F4 of Leon Camier and the Kawasaki ZX-10R of Roman Ramos.
On his own ZX-10R (Kawasaki Pedercini), Sylvain Barrier obtained the 7th fastest time in SP1, three quarters of a second behind Karel Abraham. Our dear Syl’20 will therefore start from 17th place on the Thai grid, between the Panigale of Xavi Fores and the RSV4 of Savadori.
