MNC analysis of World Superbike in Germany
Beyond the points distributed, each race weekend brings its share of remarkable feats and poor performances, good and bad surprises. In its analysis, Site reviews the highlights of the WSBK at the Lausitzring.
The WSBK 2016 on track to Magny-Cours
In two short weeks, the duo acclaimed by the French public will not be Italo-British, but 50% Japanese and 50% French, 100% blue. This is obviously the official Yamaha n ° 50 and Sylvain Guintoli who met this weekend at the Lausitzring.
Once again reunited after almost five months of hiatus, the R1 and "Guinters" have made a satisfactory comeback, not a winner but almost! Fifth in the second German round, our 2014 world champion was convinced that his bike had the potential to win…
In his near-live report, MNC observed that Sylvain had recorded the second fastest time in the race: 1 ‘56.515 for our compatriot against 1’ 56.386 for the impressive Xavi Fores and 1 ‘57.215 for the winner Jonathan Rea.
Also, Site readers – who, as everyone knows, have a little more luck than the others – are now expecting something really "special" for the next WSBK event scheduled at Magny-Cours, as Sylvain promised in our last interview.
Even before having raced at the Lausitzring, the French driver did not hide his desire to shine in front of his public … and his potential employers, since Sylvain has known for a few weeks that he will be replaced next year within the Official Yamaha team by young Michael van den Mark.
The French pilot – who lives in England with his "wife" and his four "children" – pointed out to us: over the last four seasons at Magny-Cours, he has only missed the podium once! This year, "Guinters" will once again be keen to continue its impressive harvest..
The tests he carried out there two weeks ago with the Yamaha Pata team should help him there, even if the dire weather conditions have limited his number of laps to 35. "It was good to complete a few laps here today. For me, this test was an opportunity to regain my rhythm ", indicated Sylvain Guintoli.
"We found the rhythm fairly quickly and found a good feeling on the Magny-Cours track", he assured. "I know this track well (unlike the Lausitzring, editor’s note). I like to ride there and I know what the times are that I can do here. So, it was good to find the rhythm and I feel that everything is fine. good place".
Will the French public be more polished than the German one, scattered in the vast stands of the de Lausitz ring and come to cheer on Markus Reiterberger, reigning German Superbike champion (IDM)? Second time behind a surprising Savadori on the first day, "Reiti" unfortunately did not materialize in the race..
Falling heavily on his back on Saturday morning – as in Misano where he had really hurt himself – the German n ° 21 did not manage to cross "his" finish line: forced to retire by a technical problem on Saturday, he made a mistake in the rain when he didn’t want to take any risk … "I did not understand, because I was not forcing …", he confessed on Sunday evening.
If no German driver has climbed a WSBK podium for seven years (3rd place for Max Neukirchner in Valence in 2009), the German spectators were nevertheless able to acclaim "their" champion 2014, Xavi Fores, author of his first WSBK podium. alongside the "rookie" Alex de Angelis who also tasted Prosecco for the first time…
Finally, it should be noted that if Sylvain Guintoli has made a solid comeback in WorldSBK, Sylvain Barrier himself has not found the handlebars of his Kawasaki Pedercini (driven by Anthony West who missed the boat in the wet on Sunday). Our double champion STK1000 is nevertheless operational again !
Syl’20 has indeed taken the direction of the Italian Superbike Championship (CIV) where he piloted a "Kawasaki ZX10r within the Vector Motor-Sport Team, a private team technically structured by the Tech Solutions team", learns- on his official Facebook page.
It is within the framework of his work with Michelin as a development pilot that Sylvain "gained confidence from this team who decided to trust him. The common objective is to demonstrate a high level of performance and that Sylvain find his place in the international hierarchy ".
The only foreign driver in the middle of the 27 Italian entries, the n ° 52 qualified during the last event in Misano (September 3-4) in 20th position, less than three seconds from the reference time posted by a writer Michele Pirro , Ducati test rider … and MotoGP in his spare time !
The name of Sylvain Barrier unfortunately does not appear on the results sheets of the two races: to clarify this mystery, the Journal moto du net contacted Sylvain directly. Stay connected !
