The FIM is currently working on an overhaul of the regulations for the Superbike World Championship and has just confirmed the first changes planned for 2014: cost limits and the EVO category are on the program..
Next year, each pilot registered in the Superbike category will have to be satisfied with eight engines and a certain number – not specified – of gearbox ratios. Brakes and suspensions will be subject to budgetary ceilings which also remain to be defined..
On the other hand, "in order to ensure on the grid a sufficient number of riders benefiting from competitive machines", continues the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme, "the MSMA (association of manufacturers, Editor’s note) has agreed to provide at a certain price, and on request, a motorcycle package for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons ".
Still according to the FIM, these “compe-client” machines must correspond in all points to those entered by the manufacturer himself and will receive updates and revisions from him during the season. Enough to revitalize the plans produced for sports cars of 1000 cc – and 1200 cc for twin cylinders – in the coming years? We already know …
Finally, the EVO sub-category is confirmed. This new class will apply the technical regulations of the Superbike with regard to the chassis (production frame, swingarm of the same appearance), suspensions and brakes (with the same future budgetary constraints).
On the other hand, the engine and its electronics will have to meet the current Superstock standards, namely that no modifications will be authorized at the levels of: injection system, cylinder head, camshaft and pinions, cylinders, pistons, segments, axes of pistons and clips, crankshaft, crankcases, clutch and oil pumps (cf.).
"Further details regarding the EVO technical rules will soon be available on the FIM website," said the federation. The latter also promises that a first draft of the new WSBK 2014 regulations will be published at the end of the month: stay tuned !
